Chapter 14.2 Status Report (6)

I’ve set myself the goal of having the update ready by the end of this month, and I’m still making progress through the final stretches of the script, which has already reached the length of the last release and will surpass it. The scenes are highly modular and can play out in different variations depending on how the storylines intersect, so there are multiple iterations of the same events that interlock in fairly complex ways.

As for the art, I only have one last animation left to draw (unless I decide to add some extra artwork, which is quite likely) and several illustrations to edit. Little by little, the final whole starts to take shape as the pieces come together, and that always gives me a much-needed morale boost to push through the long, tedious marathon of building a new chapter and reach the finish line.

Regarding the upcoming Steam release, we’re currently considering a release window between March and May, so it’s getting very close. Personally, I’m not very familiar with the current state of the visual novel market on Steam, and although Our Red String will launch in Early Access (unfortunately it’s not finished yet!), taking into account the amount and quality of content across these 14 chapters, what do you think would be a fair price for the game on Steam? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, and don’t forget to add it to your wishlist if you haven’t already, it really helps with the launch!

A game of this quality should be $30 minimum but a starting discount to 20 or 15 would get the traction for sales.

For the Steam price, I would have said something around 20$. Maybe with some discount for launch, like 20% to get people to buy it and potentially get in the trending view. Some similar game in terms of writing and storyline, you could see "Seeds of Chaos", which are also good, and they are pricing at 16.79$

Excited for the next release! Found GGGB and played ORS about 2-3 months before the last part released around October if I remember right. Just want to say I appreciate all of your hard work that you've put into to this. There isn't much like ORS or GGGB for that matter, so thank you! Also I think a good price would be $20 even upwards to about $35 if you planned on doing sales frequently to entice ppl. Hope the steam release goes well :)

I think a game of this high quality should be $29.99.

I just want to say, I'm new to the world of ORS and I'm completely immersed. I'm only five chapters in on my first run. I tend to prefer female-protagonist experiences so it took me a little while to get used to the Ian bits, but I do love the other women he gets to interact with.

And I say $20 would be totally fair.

Being a Dik is $15 for season 1 and $20 for season 2. So right in that ball park should be fine. If possible I would add the walk through for $5 as dlc.

Although I consider your game to be better than the vast majority of AVN's out there, I think $14.99 is a fair price ... that said, I would break the game up into at least 2 parts, but not knowing how much more of the game is left, it's hard to pinpoint what's the first half of the game and what is the second. I also agree with the notion that a short demo helps, as well as offering a sale of say 15% right at the beginning.

I'd say ~$10-15 on Steam. From what I've seen, there's a lot of average to weak visual novels charging $15+ on Steam with content (quantity and quality) that is significantly less than ORS currently.

Based on current content alone I think $15-20 US wouldn’t be unreasonable.

I mean let's be honest your game is so polished and so multi faceted compared to most games in this genre, I would gladly pay 20-30. I would suggest if you can release a short demo to let players get a taste of what is possible in the gameplay.

You can sell the whole game for a single price, you can split it into multi-chapter packages (1-5, 6-10, etc.), or you can offer what's available for a lower price and then increase it with each content update (which would be 100% fair but absolutely state this upfront upon/before release). I've played indie VNs where you pay ~7$ per chapter, and I've paid 60$ for The Hundred Line which is a professional production so there's definitely a range you can fall into nicely.

I would say 15-20$ for steam :)

Sounds great! Looking forward to it. If it were me, I’d go with €17. Have a good one!

20€ would be a fair price.

I play a ton of adult VNs and I'd be very happy with a 15 € price. There's already so much content in your game which makes this a more than fair price.

I think £15 is a fair asking price for the amount of content.

Eva, your game will definitely be a success!!! The price is fair and well chosen! One request: Eva, please don’t forget about the Germans!!! They won’t be able to buy your game!!! Please add an option to sell or give away Steam keys to your subscribers. There will definitely be people interested in that, trust me. There are games in the same genre that already do this — they sell keys automatically via itch.io. If my memory isn’t failing me, for example, the developer of Desert Stalker does exactly that. Guys, please support this post with a heart ❤️

I would like to support this point. Will there still be an option for German supporters here on Patreon?

Consider $15 for steam release

Don't stress the chapter release. I find it's always worth the wait, especially after the first pool day! 🫡

Happy to hear we are getting close. I am quite excited to see who shows up and how these scenes will play out.
