Chapter 12 Status Report (10)

During this week I've been splitting work between art and writing, as usual.

I've finished all the drawings needed for a major scene and they've been sent to the colorist. During this stage I'm also structuring how the scene will play out, and lately I've been using storyboards to plan things out, as scenes become more complex. Before, coming up with the structure and choosing which images to use to illustrate it was simpler, but now I take some time to think things through and I end up shuffling the order and flow of the scene until I find something that I'm happy with. I can't share those in a public post due to Patreon's guidelines, but I will in a private post if you guys are interested in seeing some bts stuff.

As I mentioned in my last report, writing is quite challenging, especially the in-between scenes that connect the major plot points. These are specially important in this update, since I'm trying to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, fun and natural and that immerses you in a summer vacation with friends. This becomes especially difficult and tedious when a single scene can have so many variations depending on how you've developed the different relationships. Often times I get the feeling I'm not managing to convincingly create dialogue that flows naturally and scenes that evoke that cozy, familiar feeling, having to chop up every dialogue in different possibilities, accounting for the various reactions characters should display and generally coming up with interesting and well-written situations that don't feel a drag to read or feel inconsistent.

I wonder if you guys got that feeling with the last update, or you're finding it satisfying enough. In this last chapter, which scenes if any were your favourites? Did you enjoy a setpiece over the rest or did a particular interaction stood out to you? What did you find missing, anddo you have any suggestions to tackle this issue and make interactions more interesting? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions; in the meanwhile I'm doing my best to craft evocative and coherent moments. Hopefully I'm doing a good enough job!

I noticed playing a new path that there's an inconsistent dialogue if you cheat with mark while dating Ian with Lena in the bathroom at the club. It is after the blowjob and Lena says that her boyfriend is waiting outside, Mark acknowledges and promises to keep it a secret. And then it is a bit of a strange change where lena mentions smth about not tonight, and then Mark says "oh right, you came her with another guy didn't you?". Right after promising to keep it a secret from the boyfriend waiting outside, as if he forgot what they just talked about. It's a niche scene with probably few playing it, but I found it hot and thought I'd mention the inconsistent dialogue after the scene.

I feel like I'm giving Holly a pep talk, but nah you are the best fucking writer working in the AVN space right now. Just follow your instincts and all of us will be happy.

First off recently played for like the 4th time, so obsessed and so excited for updates, I check every day lol. Personally I absolutely love the dichotomy of Jeremy and Ian, sort of having this bro-ship in which Jeremy can just own women with his massive cock and he sort of throws the scraps of photos and videos to his buddy, I love the process to, how it starts off as just a bro thing, and then maybe gets to be a power thing. That mixed with Ian dreaming about Gillian getting fucked and then just having the option to do nothing. I would love this to quickly devolve into a Cuck/NTR situation with Ian, I think with your OCs and Ian's style it has Soooooo much potential!.

I found this game in the past week and I am in awe by the story, art, and amount of effort that has been put into this project. Thank you for making such a fantastic game. You are doing a great job!

Hi, wanted to say that I'd be interested in a game mode that allows you to play only as one of both characters. So you can choose, maybe the choices of the non playable character are then (semi-)randomized. I know this isn't the original idea but maybe as an optional game mode / enhancement. Why? I think it would be cool to experience the story out of one singular perspective for each playthrough.

I may be in the minority, but I'm enjoying the Lena/Stan run. I wanna see how deep this rabbit hole goes

The change with the female characters was very enjoyable. But (even though I'm straight xD) what I liked the most was the interaction with Wade and Perry. Interaction with them is more indirect than with female characters, but this seems to make the characters in this game feel alive and breathing.

Interaction with wade and perry? Gimme spoilers please!!

This is a tough job. It requires immense patience and clear logic, as well as inspiring creativity and intense emotion, to surpass the height and depth of the previous work. I will continue to support you until I see the surprising content. I appreciate its universality and uniqueness. Meanwhile, my own life is in great difficulty. Thank you for your creation!

Just want to belatedly add my own thanks for the work you put in on the last update. The standouts for me was the last Ian/Holly scene and associated dialogue leading to the expectation of a throuple with Lena and Ian/Emma which was a pleasant surprise to see that relationship develop as I think their exploratory dynamic with Ian switching between dominant and passive working with Emma. As to future content I am wondering if a more 'adventurous' Holly might make a another play for Ian after her 'kiss' didn't take from an earlier chapter. Could that lead to a belated Ian/Holly matchup if she drifts away from Ivy's influence or could there be a 3some i didn't forsee of Holly-Ian- Ivy. I am sure you will keep us entertained regardless! :)

Like Mav888, english is not my mother tongue, but so far, with all the paths I've been through, it didn't seem to me there was any inconsistent dialogue. I sent you dm about what I think missing regarding a specific scene when Lena is at her parent’s house before joining the others at the beach house Imo, your work is just marvelous

:D . Has it got something to do with masturbation?

There's a lot of good things in this chapter especially with so many playthroughs i can see the detail you put into the dialogue based on personality and player choice. It is very impressive and appreciated. My favorite part was very small but it's when Ian has the chance to admit to Ivy he is into feet. I hope this has a payoff in later chapters with Ivy or other Ian love interested as i'm a fan of that. I also just like the idea of Ian becoming more involved with Ivy.

I've missed and I'm still waiting for a good scene in which Ian gives the necklace to Lena, otherwise and so far, everything is great. I was particularly surprised and pleased with the message exchanges with Ivy and Louise

I liked the scene between Louise and Ian as well.

I love the game. I'm not being hyperbolic saying that it's a visual novel masterpiece. I've played it through many times with different paths and haven't encountered any dialogue or scene that felt choppy like that, so I don't think you need to worry too much about it. Emma and Minerva are my favorites to go after, and the latest chapter was great in conveying how a pursuit of Emma might work out with the rest of the friend circle. It felt familiar and interesting, dangerous yet exciting in a way that really reminded me of teenage love secrets in friend groups iny childhood. If you have any doubts, you can let go of them, cause you're knocking this out of the park.

V
VHO · May 18, 2024

The Louise/Ian and Emma/Ian scenes were my favorite. As for what I thought was missing, I thought this chapter part would have been a good spot for some Alison/Ian or Louise/Lena texting/sexting on their routes. I still think that could happen in the next part. I think you’re doing a great job. Good luck!

I'm liking the gradual drift towards the possibility of an Ian/Lena/Holly throuple. Especially with the talk about non-traditional non-monogamous relationships. Since that's the path I'm aiming for in my primary play through, I'm hoping that can happen, and I'm liking the hints in that direction. Lena, Ian, and Holly all seem to want it, but none of them are willing to say it at this point. I haven't had any problems with the dialogue. I haven't gone through every path yet (I like to savor my time with ORS) but every path I've gone through feels like a natural progression.

RetainedKitten · May 18, 2024

I loved Emma, it feels like she could also work with Ian and Lena or Ian and Holly. My favorite though was Holly confessing her feelings about Lena and understanding that they would need to talk with her. Then Ian watching his girls and thinking them adorable. If I was really greedy I would say the the throuple could be a quartet bc Emma has enough love for everyone too.

I love the new Chapter. But as Emma and Louise Ultra. That is very easy my fav. Chapter so far. The possible Chance Cherry will join the Group is cool and i can´t wait to see if there is a chance, or not. Your Dialogues are good. I like to read them and they show me the characters of the people.

I love your dialogues! ORS is the game that has, by design, the most boring plot - you are simply telling the story of some friends in real life, there are no aliens, super powers, explosions and all that stuff that makes even a bad dialogue somewhat interestig. But you make this "boring" plot super interesting because I can relate to the characters. Most other games I play, they feel artificial, or best of all one or two dimensional characterwise. ORS in contrast has such a depth to characters and relations. Remember when finishing a real good book and feeling sorry that you don't get to be with your imaginary friends anymore? That is what I get from ORS. In the last chapter, I loved the dialogued between Emma and Perry about the dog. He admires her, she is his dream, yet he is (even understandably!) concerned about his parents house and pissed of because she did not ask him about bringing the dog. Name any other game that excels in this type of story! Bad creators don't get any dialogue right, but even mediocre creators get the big story points right. Being sorry for another character having cancer or have been beaten up is simple. Being happy for someone that won in lottery or is getting a nice job is easy as well. But writing a scene about a trivial thing like the anger about the dog in combination with admiration about the dog's owner is not trivial at all and most often overlooked. Do you know Thomas Mann, the german writer? Do you know the story of Jacob in Aegypt ? The bible tells the story on a few pages, Thomas Mann wrote three books about it, writing in detail about trivial things like having problems of getting to sleep. Or an inner monologue of a high priestess that mournes her inability to procreate. You are doing that kind of stuff here in ORS, in another scale, with more eros, but in a very good way. Almost every scene feels natural. Oh, and I laughed when someone had a unexpected reaction to a new drug :D . And felt sorry for him at the same time. You are creating a real dime!

I enjoyed it, the Emma scenes in particular. I don't usually pursue her in my main playthroughs but there is something about her that makes them very enjoyable. I'm still holding out for a Perry & Ian tag team with Emma. Perhaps out of character for Perry but I think we can get him to loosen up. I've never really been too interested in the interactions between the good looking and confident characters. They just seem obvious and inevitable and that is not meant as a criticism of your writing (I do love Ian and Cindy for example). I just find the underdogs to be more interesting. That's probably why I find Stan and Perry such interesting characters. The last interaction between Stan and Lena was one of my favorites. I think you're on the right track and are doing a fantastic job given the complexity.

Cheers Eva, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Because English is not my mother tongue, I am not the best address for the complexity of the dialogues but I have played enough adult games to sincerely tell, Eva your character and the complexity of the plot and the possibility is at a completely different and extremely high level...of course also in the dialogues! ⚜️ The private post would be very interesting! 😏
