Remember when the complaint was that they don't go anywhere?
Sigh, Alex. Come on. Kira said she'd be back in a week. So where they were was ~3 days from the gamma-end of the wormhole. The nearest Dominion outpost was 3 weeks away from the planet. So the wormhole isn't in Dominion territory - just close. And not even super close. And ffs, they're explorers, and the setup for the episode is looking into potential mining operations, which are probably critical to a civilization like the Federation that span such a wide area. And when the ship crashed, they suddenly gained a great possibility of understanding the Dominion tech and gaining a strategic advantage versus a significant threat. Sorry to go all xennial, but what is it with Gen Z folks being super risk averse? It isn't just that risk is part of the job, it's that without risk you gain nothing.
"Risk! Risk is our business. That’s what this starship is all about. That’s why we’re aboard her!" - Kirk
guessing alex rolls a d20 to decide if he likes an episode? and needs a perfect crit to enjoy it
The inertial dampners broke. That's why the dead and why the injured founder. Here's where if you understand trek science you can read the episodes better.
Somebody tell Alex it's a misprint. It was three days from the wormhole and they were trying to be subtle with the runabout to go and give supplies to The Quickening planet and Defiant had a flat. 3 sentences away from good.
The inertial dampers failed on the ship during acceleration or maneuvers. The resulting G forces at the speeds these ships travel would definitely kill you, liquify your innards while shattering your skeleton and probably mortally would a changling.
I picture Alex’s ancestors squatting in a cave arguing no one should leave the cave. Nothing good happens outside the cave. Star Fleets mandate is to explore the final frontier. The wormhole connects them to one quarter of the galaxy that’s entirely unexplored.
Alex is right that they should have been in the defiant from the start, Josh was right about everything else, it doesn't ruin the episode in my opinion. Was a plot convenience, thats all.
