Of the 7 movies you've watched so far... i put this one right in the middle at 4. i liked 2 3 & 4 a little more.
The reception of this film suffers, in part, the same as most sequels do. While this is the first TNG film it's essentially a sequel to the series. People already have preconceptions in their mind of what it should be, and when it doesn't match their preconceptions they immediately dislike it. Of course there are true issues with the film, but that's true of every movie if you pick it apart.
The impression I got on the Worf promotion scene on the ship was that it has been a crew tradition for a while, not just for Worf, and that Worf was clearly not into it but felt obliged to go along.
I always forget about Generations because the next film is the best of them all and has everything you could want in it.
I would rank every TNG film below Star Trek V
easily the most underrated star trek movie. most of the criticism is from those who wanted more big giant space battles. the wrath of kahn/best of both worlds crowd is def going to be restless with this one.
Top3 star trek movie for me whatever anyone says it's awesome
I ranked this one a C, but after listening to your thoughts, I now give this one a C- 😂
As far as the Data comedy goes, I can tell you when I saw this in the theater, all his jokes hit very well and the crowd ate it up.
In Star Trek V, Kirk says he’s always known he’d die alone, meaning without Spock and Bones around. So it makes more sense they weren’t there in the beginning scene or the end.
Yeah I always took that to be an emotional inference more than a literal one. Just the way he says it even. And he infers it again in Generations when he talks about his life decisions leading to "an empty house."
It did kind of screw up the continuity of Relics. In it Scotty expects Jim Kirk to be alive. Not that big a deal, but it did create a contradiction in cannon.
All of the TNG movies deal blows to canon in one way or another. They are where Patrick stops playing Jean-Luc Picard and starts playing Patrick Stewart.
Kirk's death was lame. Large characters need large deaths. His was tiny and almost anonymous.
I agree, but I like how Josh put it in that his "true" death was when he saved the Enterprise B, which I think is a much more fitting ending for the character.
I'm with Josh about the new uniforms. It makes more sense in my head canon, too, than what really happened. Go back to TNG season 3 and you'll see our main cast in new uniforms but most of the supporting cast still wear the season 1-2 uniforms. If you go back to Star Trek TMP, there are all kinds of uniforms being worn at different times. And if Star Fleet is looking to change uniforms, would they make everyone change at once or test them out? It works.
It's a detail that doesn't matter. The real reason is budgets, they didn't want to pay for all new uniforms for everyone. I'm fine with that. In a show about funny forehead aliens who all speak perfect grammatically correct English I think the uniforms is the thing I care least about.
