This was one of the first episodes I saw and got me into the show

Consistently good, never brain meltingly great The other end of the Spectrum is Babylon 5, where it is consistently -terrible-, punctuated by a few moments of absolutely peak sci-fi. Be glad for consistently good, you really don't want the reverse.

Oooh, I would never call Homicide: Life on the Street a factory show.

ER is one of the greatest shows ever made. full stop. undeniable. granted it went on too long, but those early seasons especially with George Clooney are groundbreaking and just awesome. Noah Wyle's new medical show The Pitt is also great. That would have you guys swimming in tears.

In the break for Trek I'm starting the xfiles rewatch

Sorry I’ve not watched the last couple xfiles. Life has been crazy. But I will get there! Don’t stop!

I take Alex's general point about certain shows in the medical and law genres, but note even something like ER had an episode directed by a heralded film auteur (Tarantino) in the mid 90s.

Fear not, the show has a very strong baseline, but there absolutely are S-tier giga bangers coming too.

You know the show was low budget when they keep driving the same 91 Chevy Crosica. My first car and it was horrible.

You might also enjoy Fringe. Which is very similar to X-Files in a lot of way.

Honestly, I think you guys might end up liking X-Files more than Star Trek. It should be right up your alley, especially later on once it really gets going. Plus X-Files doesn't get abstract like Star Trek can be sometimes.

When it comes to Space being the worst of the series, for the most part I agree, however I'm not including some of the later seasons in that because some fans consider them controversial. For instance, I'm in the camp where I would probably prefer Space over almost every episode in season 9. But then I'm a fan who really hates season 9. Some people love that season. Even then, I can see why Space would probably be more boring than anything in season 9. That said, I'm having a really hard time trying to think of any laughably bad episodes this entire show. There's some that are fun and goofy, but arguably those are some of the best ones. Usually if we get one that's "bad" it's because it's meh, forgettable, or boring. Or it's controversial where some fans love it, and some fans hate it. I don't think any get to Star Trek levels of "so bad it's good." I could be forgetting something though.

I also loved that this episodes makes you think it might be vampires, then Mulder thinks it is Aliens and it turns out to be Human testing, If I was Scully this would solidify in my mind that there is a scientific explanation to everything that Fox thinks are aliens, even if she can not explain it.

Ever hear of the band Eve 6? They based their name on this episode! I like that the show was able to misdirect everyone to thinking maybe Vampire, to maybe UFO. Nope, clones.

There two mind blowing episodes for me in this first season. Def more in the next ones.

i almost enjoy the x-files' monster of the week episodes more than the ufo stuff. especially when they lean into the campiness of it. so good. Expanse lost me after season 3 as well.

I'm here for Trek and X-Files. Throw Twin Peaks in there and I might even consider upping my tier again ;)

Come on, Chaps, persist with the X-Files. It is one of the major factors for me signing up here (and DS9 as well). Honestly, you will not regret it. If you've enjoyed it so far, it only gets better! Really great episode that misleads you well in the opening 15 minutes before placing you ahead of Mulder and Scully for the final 15 minutes. Bit of trivia: Harriet Sansom Harris (Sally Kendrick) played Frasier's agent, Bebe Glazer. She was one of my favourite recurring characters in that series.

The mind-blowing episodes are on the way....you'll def KNOW when you see one that it's something special.

Love the twists in this. Is it vampires? No. Is it aliens? No. Is it Sally Kendrick and Eve 8? No. It was Tina and Cindy the whole time. They're such great little actresses too. Subtle and creepy.

Creepy little kids aside, a decent episode. This has become such a treat doing the full watch along to the X-Files, I have watched only certain ST full episodes but I have and will watch all the X-Files. Soon will come a time when you will have to edit the reaction because your post-watch discussions will be so long. I look forward to that time. You guys added some joy to Mondays, bless you two.

Seriously though, my standard X-Files comment: I'm here for Star Trek reactions, but X-Files reactions have been a wonderful bonus. I was hired by Post office and worked the night shift in the 90s so I didn't watch television but I listened to the local right wing political talk radio channel and the host only wanted to talk about X-Files instead of politics...thats how I learned about X-Files and I only watched it years later on DVD....keep pushing these are good decent episodes but in later seasons omg...the variety the bold choices made...I can't say anything but you'll see if you keep pushing...I luv the X-Files
