Film has more limited dynamic range than digital, meaning that the range of dark to bright objects visible in a single frame is less for film. If the range of darkest to brightest a modern camera can capture in a single shot were a scale from 0 to 100, a 90s era film camera may only be able to capture from 25 - 75 or 30 - 70 or some such thing. This means that until the last few decades scenes filmed to look dark actually used far more light than we realize but they would adjust the color and do other tricks to make us feel like it was dark. In modern filmmaking they often just record things that are *actually* dark because cameras can handle it, but that means that to the viewer it looks actually dark. TL;DR in the 90s scenes in the dark were not actually dark but were made to feel dark, whereas now they just film things that are actually dark.

Keep'em coming. Still plenty of bangers coming. Alex's stepfather sounds like a few of the Stepfathers my friends had growing up, to varying degrees. Why do all stepfathers have to be such assholes smh
