The Sims 4 September Update: Ghost Kids, Fiery Toilets, and Fresh Roadmaps

It’s bug-fix season, and EA brought receipts longer than your legacy family tree.

Hey babes,ᰔ
Welcome back to Simmer Talk, the newsletter where we roast bugs, and sip tea. It’s been a minute (well not really lol), and wow — they’ve been busy. We’re talking a Laundry List update this Thursday, a full Quality of Life roadmap, and rumors swirling about what’s next for packs. In other words: it’s giving chaotic good. I’m personally easing into Fall with my pumpkin spiced chia, feeling alive again, and ready to break this down with you.

✦ Laundry List: September 18th Update

Ah yes, another Laundry List — the patch notes disguised as a novella. This one lands Thursday, Sept 18, and before you even think about updating: back up your saves, trays, and mods. I don’t want to see anyone crying on Threads [psss follow me there].Because their legacy family got Thanos-snapped.

Here’s the short version:

Base Game

  • Sims stop pulling out chairs just to drink water. Hydration ≠ fine dining.

  • Writing won’t reset if you’re interrupted mid-novel. Hemingway would be proud.

  • Progress bars survive loading screens (finally).

  • Holiday menus won’t ghost you when you switch Sims.

Multiple Packs

  • Skill cheats can go down now humble those overachievers.

  • Glasses stop cosplaying as sunglasses.

  • Vampire and Fairy kids regain their right to “summon a bush.” Nature always wins.

  • Fireplaces finally light the room instead of the wall — que progress.

Expansion Packs

  • Enchanted by Nature: Gnomes stop setting toilets on fire. I can’t believe that was real.

  • Life & Death: Ghost kids actually show up now. The bar is on the floor.

  • Discover University: Bike pedals align with feet — groundbreaking tech.

  • Cats & Dogs: Pets stop deforming into nightmare fuel after aging.

Game + Stuff Packs

  • Werewolves: Hair no longer shrinks when you zoom out. Justice for follicles.

  • Realm of Magic: Stage stairs move back where they belong.

  • Backyard Stuff: Boat-neck tee finally shows the right swatch.

  • Miscellaneous mis-tags shoved back into the right categories.

Kits

  • Sweet Slumber Party: Nail polish tagged properly for masculine frames.

  • Greenhouse Haven: “Green” doors stop pretending to be brown.

  • Duplicate swatches corrected.

  • More random tag fixes so we don’t lose our minds.

That’s the highlight reel. For the full bug circus, read EA’s official list. Bring snacks.

🗺 Quality of Life Roadmap

After weeks of simmer memes and side-eye, EA is suddenly in their “we hear you” era. They’ve promised to double down over the next eight weeks, tackling performance issues and (allegedly) getting ahead of future chaos. Translation: y’all dragged them enough that they had to do something.

Here’s the roadmap:

  • Sept 18 (PC/Mac) → Base Game update drops. Modders already got TDESC files, so CC won’t combust immediately.

  • Sept 23 (Console girlies) → PlayStation & Xbox get their update after certification. Expect Gallery weirdness until then.

  • October → Bug babysitting month. Adventure Awaits launches Oct 2, and EA swears they’ll be watching closely.

  • Nov 4 → Big patch day: player-voted fixes plus some free content. Sooo, perhaps we'll finally uncover the mystery of the save files and why the game refuses to wake up from its eternal slumber- for some people.

Will it work? TBD. But the fact they’re giving modders prep time and letting community votes steer fixes is at least a step in the right direction.

🗣 Rumors & Release Order Whispers

As if the chaos wasn’t enough, SimsCommunityinfo reports that Expansion Pack 21 is now about seven DLCs away. So whatever you thought was coming soon? Push it back.

What this really says:

  • EA is shuffling priorities — dev timelines, sales, maybe even community pressure.

  • Some packs could leapfrog others.

  • Leaks ≠ guarantees. Internal orders change all the time.

  • Andddd more kits.. yayyy ∘ ∘ ∘ ( °ヮ° ) ?

Basically: don’t tattoo your wishlist dates on your arm just yet. But hey, at least it means they’re flexible — and maybe loud simmer demands could actually make a difference.

𖢥 Bug Hall of Fame

Before we close, let’s honor the chaos. Some bugs are just too legendary not to remember:

  • Sims pulling out a chair just to drink water hydration, but make it formal dining.

  • Gnomes upgrading toilets until they burst into flames HGTV could never.

  • Pets aging up into Picasso paintings the chaos abstract art you didn’t ask for.

  • Fireplaces shining light backwards like a ghost spotlight spooky season came early. 𔓎 ᵇᵒᵒ

These are the stories we’ll tell our grand-sims.

☕︎ྀི Real Talk

This was a lot but isn’t that always the Sims 4 experience? Big shiny expansion, massive bug patch, and us sitting here sipping tea waiting to see if it actually works.

The truth is, progress is progress. Giving modders a head start, fixing dozens of pack-specific issues in one sweep, and letting players vote on priorities shows they’re trying. Will it all stick? Maybe. Will we still end up with new bugs to laugh about? Absolutely.

Either way, this Fall feels like it has potential — smoother gameplay, fresher updates, and plenty of tea to keep us talking.

Until next time: back up your game. Seriously.
