In Want of Rest
Wet earth caked across her eyes to keep them shut. Silver-threaded string bound around her wrists to keep them still. A garlic bulb wedged into her open mouth as an extra measure.
I don't think she's a vampire, but I can't bring myself to cut off her head or split her body into pieces. These precautions will hopefully be enough.
I close the lid on her coffin and climb out of her grave. My muscles burn as I dump shovelfuls of earth on top of her.
I hope she remains below so that I can finally mourn her and rest.
