Your Burden to Carry
Candles sputter in the dark surrounding the altar. Surrounding your body.
Blood has been spilled to form the runes all around. I clamp my hand down on my wrist and wince. My legs are shaking, and I feel so weak, but my work is not yet done.
I step up to the altar and coat your lips with my blood. My life's blood for your return.
You will need more once you open your eyes, but I couldn't kill anyone. That was a burden I wouldn't carry.
I spare the tied-up girl a glance. She'd be your burden to carry.
