Green Bean Media Received International News Award from ICFJ
Green Bean Media has been selected as one of the recipients of the inaugural ICFJ News Creator Award for Excellence in Independent Video Journalism.
Organized by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and supported by YouTube, the award honors independent news creators around the world who are pushing the boundaries of storytelling and public interest journalism in the digital age.
This year’s awardees hail from Palestine, Malaysia, the United States, Brazil, Canada, Kenya, El Salvador, and the United Kingdom, covering stories on human rights, the environment, gender, public policy, and investigative reporting.
ICFJ stated that the awardees "represent a new generation of storytellers with professionalism and creativity — redefining what journalism can be.”
As an exiled media outlet, Green Bean Media is committed to documenting the changes in Hong Kong and the stories of the Hongkongers. We believe history is still being written, and it is our responsibility to report it truthfully and continue speaking out.
As part of the award announcement, ICFJ highlighted the following featured works by us:
📍 A Reshaped Hong Kong under the Trial of the 47 → Watch here
📍 Letters from the imprisoned: Chow Hang Tung (Shortlisted for Best Documentary Short Film at the 61st Golden Horse Awards) → Watch here
📍 2024 A Turning Point in Hong Kong → Watch here
The award ceremony will take place on 11 April 2025, at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy, hosted by Adam Banicki, Head of Video at Fortune.
We are deeply grateful to every audience, reader, interviewee, and contributor. Your trust is the reason we can keep doing what we do.
No matter how high the walls, we must rise above them — and let the truth be heard.
