Rascal Does Not Dream Episode 10

Oof, this ep struck a nerve I didn't know I had.. 😭 I think I might've mentioned this before, but I was supposed to have had a brother. 1 yr almost exactly apart, supposedly looked the same as me and stuff. Well, he didn't make it out of the hospital, but I did and before I knew about him, I felt like I was fighting a losing battle against something I couldn't understand. Like I was NEVER what people wanted me to be, but especially my parents. They were a lot kinder to boys my age and younger, and comments were made here and there about how they wished they had a son and stuff. In my 20s when I found out about my brother, it all clicked into place that I was being compared to "what could have been" and I started making the same comparisons. "If he lived, what would he have done with his life? Would he have lived better? Done more? Would they have been happy with him for who he was?" Things like that. It never mattered to them that I was practically a son rather than a daughter because it wasn't they wanted just any son. They wanted their son who wasn't me. At least, that's how I started feeling. Been working on that feeling, but damn, I forgot about this ep and the last time I watched it, I didn't know my brother existed, so it just hit so different. A little side fun fact about all this: I love BTS. I dragged my mom to a concert with me and she came out suuuuper emotional. She suddenly developed an almost motherly attachment to BTS, particularly around their anniversary/birthday of 6.13.13 I eventually was like "why are you so emotionally obsessed with their anniversary?" And that's how I found out my brother existed. He was born on 6.13 at 1pm aka 13:00. So essentially 6.13. 13. 😅 now I have a sibling complex with my fav band but it's fiiiiiine~ 😮💨 I'm glad I accidentally gave my mom an outlet for all her feelings around this, and we were finally able to put him to rest for the most part.
I really appreciated this conversation at the end here!
As somebody who was raised completely hands-off, in hindesight while there were some benefits to it, I do feel as though having a little push/support for anything I ever had interest in would have been nice for the big picture. I was never encouraged to do anything, and I was never discouraged from doing anything. It's a delicate balance and I am sure that every human who has ever been born has had a different level of how much benefit from involvment they would get. I think the fact that you are thinking about this stuff shows how much you care, and long-term, that is probably the most important thing for any kid to feel from their parents.
And once again. Dialog with father was short because they cut huge part of source material. If you like this story, reading books after watching is worth it. For example, first 3 episodes is around 60min animation, while audiobook is 8 hours long. I guess when they were making season they wanted to adapt to a certain point.
It wasn't very well conveyed in the anime, but even though their moms put them into show-biz for their own reasons, Nodoka really wanted to be a star, because she admires Mai and if she will be popular enough, she could just meet her someday.
I‘d love to reccomend Monogatari Series, bunny girl was ispired in some elements by it. One of the best to Explore character psychology, complex and trauma, and deal realisticaly with friendship and relationship insecurities. This show is 50%serious and 50% konosuba hahaha the problem lies here. Since this show is Very Dialogue Heavy the author includes this gag/joke/Fan Service unrelated to Plot Moments that are a unrelated to the Main plot, some time are hit or miss, and not to be taken serious but as a joke for common Tropes in anime, to make the show less heavy
Sakuta's parents arent bad or negligent parents tho like this isnt like the usual neglective parent like Gon's dad for example where even tho he had a reason to abandon him it wasnt a good one, while Sakuta's parents just live apart from their kids until the mom gets better. I mean you can say "Oh they should all just live together and help the mom together" but thats worse than what they are doing now, the mom being near Kaede would just make both the mom and Kaede feel worse. The situation just sucks and I think Sakuta and his dad made the right call taking care of the person that that person would be more comfortable with.
Let's hydrate guys we're gonna need it
I thought that after Oshi no Ko, nothing in idol culture could surprise me anymore. But the way these 15-year-old girls are on stage in front of a crowd of men—and one of their mothers—joking about not wearing panties and getting wet down there from some mysterious “juice”... Just wow. This show really holds nothing back, but I don’t blame it—I don’t think reality is any different. Wes and Steph’s reaction killed me—it’s funny that they didn’t even want to talk about it 😂
Now I'm not good at Japanese by any means, but in that clip when Mai makes fun of her and says "You always say how even your panties are drenched after a gig" What she says in Japanese (or what I hear, at least) is "itsumo(always) pantsu(panties) made ase(sweaty) de" so if we are taking the rough, literal translation, she is specifically talking about sweat and wasn't really implying anything. But the jokes they were saying like "idols don't sweat" and "idols don't wear panties" are formulas I've noticed in other shows, like in Konosuba Megumin says "Crimson Demons don't pee". Kind of poking fun on how the weird fixation Japan has on girls and how they are expected to be "seiso" I have no clue how much is being said between the lines, if the subtitles are the more accurate translation of the intended, implied message, or if the English translators intentionally changed the wording to make it more suggestive. I won't be surprised if some of the fans are there for less wholesome reasons though.
Next episodes are going to be something else
yes..
it would be awesome if your sister does a guest reaction with you steph. sounds like fun.
Sneaky, you just want to know if it's really possible to be prettier than Steph 😂
Cannot wait for the next 3 episodes and the 3 movies after this season is over.
