I wrote a book called Liquids!
Man oh man. The last couple weeks of my life have been weird and difficult. I’m in the midst of one of the biggest work periods of many life. Not only have I been making videos near constantly, and I have music coming as well, but I also wrote a book called Liquids.
Folks have been asking about it since I made the initial twitter announcement so I figured I’d go into more detail here. Liquids is more or less my first attempt at writing horror fiction directly. Ive made movies and and albums and am I’m familiar with narrative intimately so it felt like a natural progression. That said, part of the challenge of writing this was allowing myself to be gross. There’s stuff in the book that’s genuinely some of the grossest stuff Ive ever had to think about and that challenged me greatly. I don’t know how I feel about perpetuating bad ideas and concepts in my own work but I felt it was essential to challenge myself to do it only to watch myself argue with it. A lot of the book is just a really bad thing happens that no one could ever justify and the characters just have to accept it and move on even when its horrible. I feel like this is an experience were all now intimately familiar with.
I think one of the side effects of our connectivity and access to information, is how often that information can really be our downfall. I find that frequently online I will learn something or see something that I would have been better off not seeing or knowing. If anything these shitty problems we all struggle with online were made worse by Covid and isolation. Eventually it felt like there were ONLY bad things on the internet and frequently bad, violent or obsessive people. For so many of us, the internet represents hope but what kind of hope do we really have here.
So I wrote a book about that, called Liquids and its nasty. It’s the story of two women that meet online and what starts off as an innocent long distance thing, quickly becomes obsessive and then co-dependent and then falls further down the pipeline until both characters find themselves in a hell so deep they can’t crawl out. I struggle to say much more than that because I feel the ending details are both too gruesome to describe here and also, why ruin the surprise?
Unfortunately for you dear reader, I will have to go through the lengthy editing process for the foreseeable future but if all goes well I should be self-publishing sometime in October. I will be sharing excerpts and updates here as things progress. Naturally I wont expect any of you that support me here to pay to read the book. Ill be posting a link to the manuscript when I have a version that’s ready to go. That said, this is your warning, I feel bad letting it be free because that means more people will read it and consume it. I don’t really ever set out to make money on a project and rarely actually do, but I can see the benefit of a paywall on this if only to keep out folks who wont be able to handle it. Nevertheless, I’m giving it to you all for free here soon. Chapter by chapter maybe. Y’all just be careful now.
Soon.

I was already hyped about this, but I didn't realize HOW hyped I was about this until I started ranting about being excited to a fellow writer friend. So excited to see what you're doing with this, and what you'll do if you choose to keep pursuing horror fiction!!
editing is for me the cruelest part of writing and also the most rewarding. be kind to yourself and take all the time (or as little) as you need. its a bit like a good loaf of bread, it takes some time and rest but future me will enjoy it even more so.
Can't wait to reading it and looking away from the screen muttering "damn it May, really?"
I am VERY HERE FOR THIS.
Me too! Could do a free Patreon digital release then sell hard copies? I would definitely grab the hard copy if it's an option ^-^
Take my money! I’ll buy a copy! 💵 📕 😧
