Cayt: It was a lot of fun — though difficult — to get the look we wanted out of these pages. I'm pretty proud of them.
Ari: The writing of this scene (as well as the masterful art by Caytlin) was partially inspired by the stories children who were in extremely traumatic experiences tell when they grow up; so much of it is impressions, noises, smells, certain faces, blurs with moments of clarity.

Oh, This Kira's Backstory Her Parents Was Dead By Abroad
I'm loving how the story is going I've been watching it since it first came out and this is a good story I hope these guys keep going on for a while I would pay these guys to make this into an episode with animation if they came down to this
Ok, I can't wait to see how things play out. I also get the feeling that the "nice lady" that watched Kira will be someone important in the future. Now I'm hoping that the next chapter will be posted soon. I want to know what comes next. When will the next posting be ready for reading?
The way the loud sound is described as stabbing ears and EEEEEEEEEEE, i immediatly thought of some medical drill or saw. Together with the shouting, scary noises and "she didn't feel like Ma anymore", it makes me immediatly think of a lobotomy or some "corrective" surgery
These lights are... are... they reminded me of some kind of laboratory... and what if they kind of... take creatures with some kind of defect, and modify them! Boo-hoo-hoo!!! *Cof* *cof...* Sorry, I think I overthought it. , hehehe...
This one got me right in the feels!!! Poor Kira!!! Wonderful art and story!!
Ahh, sounds like it may be what I suspected. In exchange for healing their loved ones, they're unable to leave, and somehow genetically transformed into humans. What happened to Kira is likely what happened to Tamberlane as well. Poor little ones..
I'm willing to bet that's not the case simply because of a lack of info
Hmm the bright light and the Bunks might be a medical checkup and Quarantine. But I am not sure what the "doesn't felt like my parents" anymore.
Maybe bathed with strong disinfectant? Most animals rely heavily on smell to identify others, if his parents were doused in something that removed their underlying smells they might register as strangers to him.
Still so many mysteries.
My heart! How awful they had to experience this. But i am curious. Was the loud noise a warning siren? Since they came back, was it the guard or whatever trying to "protect" from the "contaminated" from abroad? Of was it the abroad people trying to keep them from running away? Very curious.
Whatever Abroad is, I don't want to go. And by now neither does Cur, hopefully.
My guess is a more modern society, and I figure the reason no one returns is due to the risk of spreading diseases (or worse ideas) to people back on the island.
Amazing. Pleeeeeease don't have someone/something come and interrupt their story.
