Personal Update - Exhausted and Misled
So you guys may remember I took a new day job recently. The goal with the new job was that I would work four long days so I could get an extra day off to work on Orcslayers.
Sadly, it turned out I made a huge error, because while they gave me my desired schedule during the training period, it just so happens once training was done they were too short staffed for my schedule, and now I am working a mandatory five days a week, 10-12 hours a day.
Whenever I bring up that I didn't sign up for this much work I am told to just wait till they hire more employees to fill the gaps and everything will go back to normal, but it's now been over a month of this grueling schedule with my only reprieve being Memorial Day, and even that was not really a break because they just took all the work from that day and stuffed it earlier in the week, forcing me into extra long days. Sometimes I wouldn't get home till nearly 14 hours after I left.
Honestly guys, I am pissed. It feels like they misled me to get me in the door and now are showing the real schedule, because I don't see this changing. Any new employee they bring in to make things better is going to take one look at this shit and leave, taking us back to square one. How do I know? Two tenured employees already broke in the first three weeks I was there and left, and so now we are even more in the hole, so to speak.
The only reason I didn't leave as soon as this started was because my wife is happy with my new wages, and I have a deep desire to give anything I try a fair shake, so to speak, not just give up the minute things look like shit. The longer this goes on though, the more I regret ever signing up. I took this job to get more time to work on Orcslayers, and now I have drastically less.
I attempted hard to fit at least some time for Orcslayers development, but that basically turned into a single hour every morning before work, just adding to my overall fatigue. I can't play games anymore, watch movies anymore, nothing, it's just work and sleep, sleep and work. It's been killing me. My weekends are always for my kids, so I can't fit anything there either.
Why am I ranting about all this here? Mostly to vent, but also in the hope you guys understand why my update schedule is still shit right now. I will try to have a development update soon.
Anyways, back to work tomorrow. Hope you all had a good weekend.

If you decided to only work 8-10 hours max a day/~40-50 hours per week and if you can't get everything they want unrealistically done in that amount of time; that's on them. Pushing yourself to try to get all the work done I think incentivizes them to drag their feet in hiring more employees to spread the workload. If they think "oh we can get this done with the current employees so why hire more?" etc. Guess it also depends on the country you live in and possible wrongful termination etc meaning you might be able to get unemployment pay if they do that XD. Probably would need to check your employment contract. If you're getting good experience there that you can leverage to a better/better paying job then it may be worth it to work there for 3-6 months minimum. Be on good terms with a couple of co-workers/maybe a middle-management supervisor who you can get references from for your next job. If you have an HR department and you feel strongly about it you should think about speaking up/with them and saying you can't work more than XX amount because of work-life etc. If they fire you because you're not willing to work ridiculous hours then they will be even more shorthanded so it seems unlikely they will do that XD.
Don’t over push yourself. Your mental health is as much important as your body health. If you live unhappily then what’s the point of good wages? Hope you would back to a good life soon. Best wishes for you.
check you contract they cant force you to work overtime and 5 days a week unless it states in your contract
