that reaction is comedy

I always love this episode. Zuko's pathetic fire in the beginning and both of their reactions to it are hilarious. And the reveal of the dragons at the end with the rainbow flames is epic. So glad I got my mom into this a couple of years ago and got to share it with her.

water learned from the moon

My favorite touch is that since we’ve known Zuko, everytime he firebended he grunted, kind of like he had to force it out. Now he does it effortlessly

This episode is so peak, the visuals, a new civilization introduced into the lore with big mesoamerican influences fitting into a world where most of it inspired by east asian mostly chinese culture is so amazing and personaly hits my preference so well, especially mesoamerica and their mythologies are so underutilized in fantasy. I also love the lore of these animals being the source each element except for water ofc, which we learned in s1 being learned by seeing how the moon pushes and pulls the tides. Also important key point to notice is the episode the guru where guru patik goes through the chakras, especially the chakra of insight that is blocked by illusion where he notes the greatest illusion being the illusion of separation (4 nations, 4 elements is really one people, and chi) . Now connect the dots, ty lee blocks bending by blocking chi and it applies the same regardless of who she does it to which tells us all bending is chi based. Every life form carries chi but not everyone can control it. The humans who can control their own chi then eventually learned to manipulate each element by learning to use their own chi for that purpose through the respective original source/benders. Eventually it clearly turned into a trait that is inherited but recessive like katara is the only waterbender in her family we know off.

Another favorite episode of mine. Love Zuko losing his inner fire and needing to find a new drive, I love finding out that there are still dragons around, I love seeing the true meaning of fire, all the colors, and I love finding out that Iroh was the last to face the dragons before now, and they passed the knowledge on to him, and he lied to protect them. Of course that would happen for Iroh. :) The writing of this show is so brilliant. I just never get tired of watching it.

Korra motion has started. Such a good show you need to form your own opinion on it. I think the fighting and animation alone is top tier

It needed to be to make up for the inconsistency in the storytelling because it has highs and lows

Waterbenders learned from the moon but if there had to be an animal that represented it I’d say the serpents. We saw in previous seasons that they spit out water.

waterbenders learned from observing how the moon pushed and pulled the ocean tides. the original benders werent animals unlike the other elements, but the moon and ocean spirits Tui and La

That’s why Iroh was called Dragon of the West. Cuz he was thought to have killed a dragon.

Man my 2 days off are right before avatar drops, now I gotta wait till im off 😫

ParsivalXP · September 10, 2026

Even if that wasn't their original intention they introduced them in the finale and then ever since then had to make an explanation for it. Do i think there were better ways to go about it? Yes but it is what it is. Then we see them in the comics then in lok and then In the new avatar aang movie🤷🏽‍♂️ im okay the explanation caue at the end of the day, I dont mind that the original benders were animals and that the lion turtles granted the element to everything.

Waters bender got the moon, they’re the only benders that didn’t learn from animals.

One of my favorites. Also pretty sure water benders learned from the moon. Believe they say that in season 1.

Peter Shim · September 10, 2026

They never brought up the OG firebenders, the only ones they’ve mentioned specifically was that the OG earthbenders were the badger moles and the OG teacher of waterbending was the moon actually IIRC the canon.

B
Brady Meyers · September 10, 2026

They said they original firebenders were dragons

P
ParsivalXP · September 10, 2026

The original benders although were animals besides for water benders they learned from the moon, but humans learned the technique on how to use their bending from them. They didn't actually learn "to" bend from them. Bending came from the lion turtles. Primordial beings you'll learn about when you watch the legend of korra.

Its literally a contradictive retcon youre already spoiling😭 smartest tlok fan, just tell them the plot of the show atp will you. Even your comment is contradictory. So they learn how to bend from the original benders but they didnt teach them... Because they already had bending... What were they bending then huh? Tlok fans will literally do anything but admit a contradiction like bryke isnt capable of doing so... All because youre too afraid acknowledging that will destroy the image you yourself orchestrated. Guess why some of us dont like the writing in tlok

One of my favorite episodes in the series! I can't believe we're already this far into ATLA. The Waterbenders learned from the moon because the moon push and pull the tides. It was mentioned back in season 1 when we met Princess Yue. Great reaction, can't wait to watch more!

water benders learned from the moon, they learned by watching the moon push and pull the water in the ocean.

“Fire is Life, not just destruction” especially fire is useful to be warm from the cold and fire to cook food.

Yeah don’t listen to the person that commented. You should wholeheartedly watch the Legend of Korra. That way you can form your own opinion.

P
Peter Shim · September 10, 2026

Korra is worth watching just for the world building and fighting alone
