Something that wasn’t an original part of this episode but that they added into the live action on Netflix is that the 41st Division, the one that was full of new recruits and was to be used as bait is the very crew the fire lord stuck Zuko with when he was banished. In the live action this makes the crew have so much more respect for Zuko since he literally saved their lives by speaking out. Again they never said this crew is the 41st in the cartoon but that’s a cool little detail the live action added.
Easily one of season ones best episodes. I'm glad y'all enjoyed it, also i believe one of the air nomads in charge was voiced by the same guy who does the voice of po's dad in Kung fu panda, mr ping i believe
Yes the avatar state is a defensive mechanism and will activate near death
This isnt the first or last instance in which they go back and forth between aang and zuko I love how this shows contantly shows you the parallels between them and how much they have in common.
im addicted more than a drug user give me more episodes please
Yes, Vince you are correct, when he went into the water because of the storm, he was not far from the southern air Temple. As you saw kataara and Sokka's home it is below freezing, even subzero temperatures. That being the first time he went into avatar state saved his life, but the air bubble was strong enough to freeze. This time, he has had some training, so a little better control over the air bubble, even though he did use avatar state, he was able to use it just enough to get back out of the water
i think zuko made it pretty obvious he doesn’t only care about himself when he went back for his uncle in the pool instead of following the avatars trail, unfair to say he doesn’t care about anyone imo
i don’t even view zuko as a villain, i guess he’s the antagonist but i just don’t view him as a villain for some reason
8:30 This has a LOT of similarities with how the Dalai Llama is chosen. That may be what seems familiar to you, with the former avatars heirlooms and choosing, etc.
Forgot how good of an episode this is. Zuko’s story is amazing
Zuko is one of the most thoughtfully written characters I've ever seen
This episode is so good, and being right after the great divide its even more appreciated
Zuko and Aang are two sides of the same coin. Two children who had their childhood taken away from them by the greater war war either directly or indirectly.

kinda crazy when you realize all the airbenders we see in aang’s flashbacks were all wiped out/murdered
Yeah Aang unknowingly saved himself from getting killed.
BTW Thats Mark Hamil voicing the fire lord. Luke Skywalker himself.
Im fucking crying why did they make a simple jack airbender
Love this episode, all the backstorys in this show are so good, especially Zuko's
One thing you’ll notice about this show is they do an awesome job of parallel storytelling esp in the case of Aang and Zuko. IMO it’s one of the reasons this show is in the GOAT category even if it is for children.
Your right Vince the avatar state went on autopilot and saved him 🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥
One of my favorite episodes is next week
Fire lord ozai is voiced by mark hamil( Luke skywalker)
Also the joker
The reason why the kids didn’t have the tattoos was because they haven’t mastered air bending yet.
Aang has his tattoos because he’s a air master, you only get the tattoos when you master air bending
And they do it to match the bison right? Like the symbol is the arrow because of the bison?
The tattoos resemble they have mastered air bending and created an air bending technique on their own
This one of the ep I was most excited abt for them to watch. Now they finally understand zuko backstory. how he got banished and why it means so much for him to catch the avatar.
might be my favorite ep of the season! love the back and forth seeing both aang and zuko's "origin stories".
