Vince is me when I watched this episode for the first time. Cause I started to wonder if I'm some sort of a Military Strategy genius, or the battle tactics were that dumb. Why would you send an army into the darkness to fight an enemy whose advantage lies in the dark?? Why not shoot arrows and those fireballs first? Why were the trenches dug so close to the walls and behind the armies?? What was the whole point of dragon glass if everyone was just gonna fight with their normal swords?? And why did the Dothraki not have dragon glass weapons??

The worst choice? Absolutely not, for me it was the best choice because everybody expected a battle between Jon Snow and the Night King. Too much obvious then not the best choice...

Today I can laugh watching the reaction, but when this episode aired, I was in complete shock how the showrunners killed the nightking. Makes absolutely no sense. I suggest looking for the “we kinda forgot” memes after you finish the season. The showrunners were completely out of their minds

Jaime Lannister. Grey Worm. Brienne of Tarth. Jorah Mormant. Tyrion Lannister. Davos Seaworth. Jon Snow. That fight was led by 80% of the greatest military minds left alive in Westeros and you're telling me they came up with "let's dig one trench and send the Dothraki in blind"? If you made a B-Team of great military minds in that fight it would still include Sansa Stark, Samwell Tarley, Theon Greyjoy, Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark, Beric Dondarian, The Hound, Tormund Giantsbane, and the Red Lady. And let's not forget Lord Royce was there commanding the Knights of the Vale supposedly, who is also an excellent military mind. And nobody thought to dig a second trench? Maybe use the dragons to bottleneck them? Create some kill zones? Oh right, we also have all of the collective wisdom and knowledge of everything that has ever happened and is currently happening trapped inside of the brain of a character literally sitting in Winterfell. "I'm gonna go hang out in the Godswood ya'll have a good time". Honestly after all that they deserve to die to Cersei.

I think the long night should've been multiple days, I think Theon should've been beheaded it ties into him being the son of Ned it also is the full circle of his character.

The Night King is an other-worldly, magically-strong, magically-fast, magically-powerful, magically-knowledgeable, epic demon warrior that can’t be killed by ANY typical human weapons OR dragonfire. No “regular” human fighter, even if they are really, really good with the sword is going to beat him - that eliminates the Jons, the Jaimes, the Cleganes, the Neds, the Barristen Selmys, the Briennes, etc. Even Arthur Dayne as a straight swordsman would ‘probably’ not be enough. It’s either gotta be an elite battle plan executed in a way that catches him slipping. . .or one-on-one with a fighter who is “special”, not “typical” even if they are elite at the typical things. You need a weird Oberyn Martel, Syrio Forel, Torgo Nudho, Jaqen H’ghar, Khal Drogo or something else the Night King might just be alittle unfamiliar with. I swear I don’t get the disgust with Arya being the one (easily one of the best choices for this; subverted expectations, exceptionally peculiar skillset, tiny & super-sneaky) and I certainly don’t understand why it just had to be Jon for so many people. “Because they stared each other down a few times!”

I said it back when this aired... It SHOULD have been John. The entire show built John Snow as the direct opposition to the Night king

Fuck the night king! Never cared for the guy myself.

I have no issues with Arya killing the night king, she's a trained killer. I do have major issues with a full frontal charge with the dothraki on an unknown enemy, putting the trbuchets in from of the trench, and how much plot armor characters like Jaime had on the front lines and 1 hand down.

Watching this it’s amazing the quality of this damn show. People complain and you are telling me they were putting out weekly block busters movies back then??? That’s crazy. I haven’t seen a battle like that ever besides the biggest movies. This was a TV show. But definitely watching again on my tv with the contrast 100 because I couldn’t see a lot. This man Vince was going through it the whole episode..😂😂

It is disappointing. Arya killing the night king is entirely disappointing because it literally was done because the writers wanted to surprise people with something unexpected so they picked the character with the least connection to the night king. Its the cheapest move you can come up with because thinking about it for five minutes makes you realize the payoff is dumb since John has no agency in the story. He just sits there yelling at a dragon.

Part of me wishes the White Walkers made it to King's Landing as well so there was a higher fear from all of Westeros. This felt purely like a North threat instead of an all of human kind threat.

It’s so sad how much better this could have been if they did brighter visuals and wrote a better plot story wise. Sigh 😔

Am I crazy or does it still look just as dark and incoherent as it was when it was released? I heard they fixed the brightness.

Man the night king literally fell for one of the dumbest feigns ever. Also where in the world did Arya come from. She literally materialized out of thin air. And what moron thought it was a good idea to put everyone in the crypts when the villain is a guy who can bring the dead back lol.

Arya killing the Night King might be the best decision of the show, my opinion ;)

Now this final battle and the Avengers end game final battle was both released I believe on the same day or same week? Basically there was a debate of which one was better 😂

Theon legit had one of the best character arcs throughout this show. May not be my favorite but I really enjoyed his story, from Stark, to betrayer, to prisoner, tortured, to broken, to redemption, and back to where he belonged.

Sending the Daraki towards the undead was a very dumb idea had to be Sanza's idea 😂 she did say they were rationing food and didnt account for the daraki and the Sullivan army 😂 nah but fr From a tactical standpoint, it was a terrible plan for several reasons: No Shock Value: Cavalry charges rely on breaking enemy morale, scattering infantry, and causing panic. The undead feel no fear and cannot be routed. The Darkness: In the pitch black, the Dothraki rode blindly into a massive blizzard and an endless horde, totally severing their mobility from the main army. Weapon Incompatibility: Prior to the charge igniting their arakhs, their standard steel weapons would have been completely useless against the wights. Why did they do it? Military analysts and fans generally agree the charge was done for spectacular visual effect and narrative pacing rather than realistic strategy. It was used to establish the sheer, horrifying scale of the enemy by showing the instant annihilation of a legendary.

“It doesn’t even matter can’t he just raise his army back from the dead” exactly Vince. That’s why this isn’t a battle of strategy, there’s no strategy Westeros can do to win, the night king just has to many numbers way way to many. It’s just a battle of keep fighting and pray someone gets the king lol

To me , Arya killing the Night King might one of the worst choices in television history. She had no connection to the White Walkers whatsoever. Meanwhile Jon has been part of their story for the whole show and has had 2 stare downs with The Night King but no give it to Arya and decide to focus on her more than Jon for the entire episode when it objectively made no sense , and The actor who played Jon was also pissed , along with the rest of the world. Ngl though I don’t understand why Shoshanna would also want Arya to kill Cercei , after she didn’t even deserve to kill the knight king in the first place. Why should a side character like Arya get to kill everyone of importance?

“Why send them off and not defend the castle” well defending it is only smart when you have real men attacking. Killing 1000 soldiers at your walls will scare the rest. These soldiers don’t fear anything and they can keep coming back, you have to keep them as far away from winterfell or they’ll be swarmed
