PROJECT: No Shade
Our windshield sun shade-thing is broken.
We've been using these two window covers for, like, a decade? Um, do I need to explain this design? Here, I don't think this is the same brand or model that we have, but this is basically the same thing as ours. It's these two panels that each fill up half the windshield. They're made of a reflective fabric that's stretched around a rounded-square-ish wire, so you can squish them down into a small bundle when you're not using them.
As you can see, a decade's worth of use and sun exposure has worn away some of the fabric, exposing part of the wire frame.
If only we knew a hot middle age bisexual who compulsively sews weird shit all the time who could fix this for us :c
O WAIT.
If you're thinking that blue bias tape looks familiar, that is because it is the same one I used for my 18th century historical costuming pocket project.
It had been long enough since I'd worked on the afore-mentioned pocket project that I forgot how you're supposed to actually sew bias tape down. I sewed it pinned in place like this for like an inch or two and then I was like "I'm pretty sure this isn't right". I didn't take a picture of my sewing it down the right way, so you'll just have to imagine what that looks like.
I am way prouder of this than it actually warrants.
Action shot! So flexible! So durable!
Aaaaand, here it is in use-- please note, our windshield is not cracked: that dramatic diagonal line going across it is just a reflection of a power line or something from the telephone pole overhead.

O WAIT ❤️
I freaking love your fixing stuff posts and have also been fixing stuff :) It's where I get to use my creative energy where I can't get it out in other things.
Yes!! It’s this whole other way of being creative and making cool shit!
Projects done with materials on hand is (are?) always a win!
