The Mona Kimura Patreon Podcast
I'm joined by Dogman (of the infrequently released but always brilliant A Podcast About Kickboxing) and Path (The Kyokushin Analyst) to talk all things Mona Kimura!
This viral K-1 star has found an incredible amount of success on social media despite having only had five pro bouts! You should watch the entirety of her career first in my opinion (all bouts can be found below!) but if you want to hear us talk all about her and whet your appetite for her unique style, please do!
Discussion points include:
The genesis of her fighting style, and countering claims that she came up with it on the fly
If we think her style will hold up as she moves up in competition
Whether the competition is even there for female fighters around her size
If we think she is hot enough to have tens of millions of simps
And much more!
First four of Mona's fights can be found here
Her most recent fight with Marine Nicol can be found here

Loved the pod even if it hasn't changed my thoughts that much on Mona. I don't agree that her kickboxing game has become more cohesive. I think she's either kicking or boxing, and I don't think much of her boxing either. I've seen her fight with Hana Narita in 2021, and Narita just used head movement to immediately make Mona hesitant to throw anything because all she wanted to throw was a 1-2. Which having watched her box, makes me believe that she is a finished product. All of her problems from boxing are still in her kickboxing style. She doesn't have a jab that isn't connected to her left straight. Her lead hooks are atrocious. She gets scared out of the pocket way to easily when her opponent throws more than two punches at her in an exchange. I think Dogman was right about SAHO is a bad match up for her and if she ever fought Phetjeeja from ONE, then I think she'd probably leave kickboxing. Sorry for the long rant. Again, loved the pod and getting to hear from Dogman and Path since I'm no longer on twitter.
Love the rants, keep ‘em coming! I don’t think we were that high on her either. Regarding added cohesion in her game, it’s still minimal imo it’s rather that she’s now working off the threats of the side kick a bit more, rather than the complete separation of both sides of her game in her first two or three fights). I am glad you loved it though, it’s the kind of pod which slots nicely into what I’m trying to do with this feed.
