An important message: YouTube is censoring our channel. Here's how you can help.

Since 2012, it is possible for YouTube content to be flagged as "inappropriate" and be consequently demonetized, i.e. the creators cannot profit from the revenue derived from advertising on said videos. Creators like us were not informed of the demonetization by the platform until 2016. As this practice emerged, a conversation was sparked regarding YouTube's definition of "inappropriate", censorship, and the rights of content-makers on the platform. This demonetization occurs as YouTube demands that monetized content to be "advertiser-friendly".

Most of YouTube's guidelines are vague. It is hard to make clear-cut decisions when it comes to descriptors such as "inappropriate language", or the even less clear "controversial or sensitive subjects". In fact, it is arguably impossible to provide completely bias free judgments when it comes to such terminology. YouTube is employing algorithms, to identify videos that fit such descriptions. However, their algorithms are very inaccurate and because our channel talks a lot about pedophilia, sexual abuse and rape, YouTube's flawed algorithms identifies the movies as if we are supporting and celebrating these subjects. The result is unfair and controversial demonetization, and even worse, loss of money for our nonprofit that wants to create more movies about women.

If we do not receive revenue from videos, we are strongly discouraged from making content, and at times forced to abandon topics that are at risk of being flagged for being "inappropriate". In this sense, YouTube is effectively censoring content. We appealed to YouTube for many times but all our pleas have fallen under deaf ears.  We found many videos like ours which are being monetized. So, by selectively demonetizing OUR very important videos, YouTube is making it clear that the platform does not treat all content and creators equally. After we worked for years, created power relationships with you our subscribers and gained your content approval, we are not going to give up.
