Thanks Carl!
Into the forth dimension with Mr Sagan.
Like so much of my thinking, this story is based on Carl Sagan's Cosmos. Here's the specific moment I riffed off for this story. Sadly, I think Sagan did it better than me by a long shot, but I appreciate the inspiration.
God damn I love his voice.
The funny thing about writing this stuff, is realizing that you're far from the first person to touch on this territory. Alan Moore's Dr Manhattan is an obvious one. But the alien at the end of Annihilation also appears to be a projection from a higher dimension into ours. At least, that's how I saw it (in the movie, I mean, which I far preferred to the book, weirdly enough!)
Anyway, a couple of unused drawings from the first panel, above, which I couldn't figure out how to approach for a while.

Keep up the good work man, so happy to be contributing even a tiny bit to making works of art like this one become reality!
Thank you Simeon! You are definitely helping! I’m shifting to a shorter working week now so I can focus more on these stories. That’s all down to the support of you guys. It really means a lot to me!
I share your admiration - he was my hero growing up. We named our sons Sagan and Kepler.
Omg. Best. Names. Ever.
Oh I loved Annihilation. What great nightmare/daydream fuel.
Such a great film, right? Doesn’t get enough love 😂
