Big news for Bad Space
It’s official Baddies: I’m going to take a minimum six months off my day job to work on the Bad Space graphic novel.
I applied for (and got!) a grant, and combined with my Patreon, it should be do-able.
The script to the story is complete. So as soon as I sort out dates to finish my job, I’ll start drawing, and posting pages here.
Juggling these comics with my work for the past three years has been tricky at times, and has resulted in long gaps between comics. The chance to focus exclusively on these stories going forward is going to be a game changer for me.

Jeez, thanks buddy. Im working on the graphic novel as we speak, and will let my boss know I’m finishing my day job this week. So, assuming about a month’s notice, soon Ill have no excuse not to be serving you up more comic goodness.

Thanks Carl. Yeah the timing is weirdly perfect, so I think I just have to roll with it and see where it takes me. Key for me now is coming up with a disciplined plan to get the work done.
Phenomenal news! In 2001 I was laid off from a tech company, and found that with enough scraping together of resources I could take 6 months to write. I created two full length screenplays and several shorts, and in the end I wound up back in tech — but the experience was life-changing. Avoid pre-defining what "success" means, and you will no doubt be able to find it along the way. Best of luck. We're all looking forward to hearing more!
Thanks Ben. It feels pretty scary right now, but I also kind of feel like I have to do it. And to be honest, Im not sure how it’s going to look. But i really do want to make sure I’m disciplined enough to do work that feels like it’s genuinely mine. And I think id ultimately regret it a lot more if i didn’t take that risk. So yeah, I’m pretty relieved to hear you say that.

Really good news mate. I'm looking forward to reading a feature length Bad Space! Just out of curiosity (if you're happy to share) how does that work with your job? Are you taking a sabbatical? Or are you freelance? I don't actually know what you do for a living.
Thanks Ben 🤗 I work in the horror show that is politics, basically fighting the New Zealand version of maga (lite), albeit from behind a desk, and with graphic design and video 🤣 My boss (a brown woman) is being forced out of politics, so my job is coming to an end anyway. I’m using this opportunity to do my comics, rather than staying in the role, or doing freelance. It’s a fraught time for everyone right now, so fk it ❤️

Aww thanks dude. I’m so excited about starting. I’ve been storyboarding pages from the script all morning, and once those are completed I can start just pushing pages out. Like a machine! *he thinks optimistically*
