Six Years with Akane

I think it was about six years ago when I first tied Akane.

Since then, we haven’t worked together very often, but a few times every year, without fail, we find ourselves making photographs together with rope.

I’ve always felt that we created images I loved, but the photographs we’ve been making recently are especially meaningful to me.

A long time has passed since we first met. Many things have happened in both of our lives. Through all of that, we have stayed connected—not too close, not too distant—and I think we have both come to understand how rare and valuable it is to have someone you can continue creating with over many years.

Perhaps it is this shared understanding that has changed the photographs we make together.
