B-Sharp

Greetings adventurers!

They say you can never really trust a bard, but I’ve always found that piece of advice to be silly. You can absolutely trust a bard to pursue their interests, lie when needed, steal a bit as they see fit. It’s the very distrustful nature of them that makes them trustworthy to me. You know exactly what you’re getting from these rambunctious troubadours in most instances, whereas the quiet ones are always a little more sly in how they approach things. No, for me I would prefer the color loudmouth to the hooded lurker in the corner. Just make sure to keep your purse strings tight.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

Fernando and I have a pretty unique way that we go about creating these magic items that we bring to you week after week. I know for some they would probably have tons and tons of pre-canned ideas written out and ready to go or perhaps others would have certain themes that they work through, both of which are awesome. For Fernando and I though, every item just begins as a conversation. One of us will see something that inspires an idea or maybe we’ll just have a silly pun in mind that kicks it off from that point. I kind of love that that’s how everything starts at AB, just a conversation.

For this piece, we had the idea of a bard with a hidden blade and worked backwards to figure out how we could accomplish that in each of the systems. There’s plenty of things out there that have concealed compartments and can be found during a search, but we wanted something that was truly undiscoverable before the final reveal of the blade. That’s when it hit us that we could just go with a magically summoned blade that doesn’t exist before it’s drawn. It’s truly the simplest, but best solution for hiding something.

The actual implementation was quite easy in the end as we just had to write out the theming and then describe the actual non-existence of the blade before it’s pulled. We did get to do something new this time though as it’s the first time I tackled a multi-leveled item in PF2E. It’s something I had been wanting to try, but had not yet had the write item to try it on. This time around, it just felt right to give it a go. Hopefully it lands with our PF2E enjoyers!

It’s great to still be creating here in August and I know that for a lot of people, this is the last hurrah before they or their kids head back to school for the year. Hopefully you’re still getting some time to touch grass before all of that kicks off for another year. I know I’m certainly looking forward to the last few weeks of summer and plan to spend them touching more grass than usual.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.

Oh I really like that for a bard magic item and a great way to expand on the pretty generic bard kit, love it!
