One More Thing: Talespeaker
Greetings Adventurers,
Here it is, the end of May already and that means that it's time for another creature for you all. This month we opted for an NPC style stat block that can be applied to just about any character you may want. We're excited for you to check out this weaver of words that can tell as tall a tale as you can think of.
As with all of these One More Thing releases, it's exclusive to patrons. If you're not a patron and want this release, please consider supporting us here. For patrons, you'll have to grab the files from your master post (linked below) or from the Katalogue to see the stats. We hope you enjoy it.
Design notes from Matthew:
Fernando and I are both pretty high in the charisma stat in our regular life so when we get to make something bardic, it's just a real treat to get to lean into that and also get a little humorous. We had wanted to create a type of skald but knew that we wanted to put our own spin on it with abilities that enhanced their storytelling with magics.
Fernando had a great time illustrating this one and really leaned into a bit of the humor with the pose and making it feel like a very modern rock concert style only set and dressed in a style that is very much not modern rock. We wanted to convey the over the top nature we expect with this kind of character and I think Fernando nailed it.
For the mechanics, I really wanted something that turned their voice into part of their weapon and I wanted it to somehow interact with their spellcasting. It took a couple of iterations to get it right, but I think adding the extra damage on turns where they cast a certain spell really helps sell it as a bit different and unique, but still well within bardic tropes.
Glad to have another month of awesome creations in the books and I hope you all enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed writing them. We're heading into June with a plan for some really fun items and possibly a collab or two. Hope you look forward to them!
