Snitchbit

Greetings adventurers!

Have you ever really stopped to check every coin that’s handed to you or do you just take a quick look and move on assuming it’s “close enough”? Well those that would always take others at their word are also those that make the easiest marks. If you’re in the market for something a little special that will let you follow the money all the way to the corrupt end, then I think I have something that will do just that for you. Just remember which coin it is, no refunds if it gets lost in your pouch with the others.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

I think that there’s a lot of interesting ideas that can come from modern technology and figuring out how to take that back to the fantasy world. In this case, I was reading about various methods used over the years for marking bills or tracking online banking transactions. It’s a fascinating bit of history that I stumbled a bit too far down a wikipedia hole one night and thought there could be something interesting there for a magic item. The first concept was just “How could you track money in a fantasy world?” and then I started designing.

On the 5E version, in general information is a bit of a looser economy. Tables are often very open with the general info about the campaign and so I wanted to make an item that would reflect that. Letting it function for 7 days meant that players could really follow the money if they wanted to in order to find out where things were going. This reflects the looser nature of 5E’s information economy and makes sure that the item feels useful in a bit more of a higher fantasy setting.

On the PF2E version, there was actually a lot more to consider from a balance standpoint. I know that letting it go any longer than a day would absolutely be right out for lower tier balancing in PF2E. Similarly I need to tie it into actions for both figuring out the nature of the item and also how to interact with the item as the person that activated it. The general vibe of a system should always come into play when you’re designing. Something to consider anyways.

This is our first item of December and it’s also an item that marks 4 years of developing content here on Patreon. We’re going to be launching a post tomorrow with a bit more about that. Also we’re updating some of our marketing language finally. That shouldn’t have much to do with you all, I’m just excited to keep creating.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
