Reacting to "The Divine Feminine" (10th Anniversary) by Mac Miller

I dove into this one pretty hard today, no particular reason as to why. Hopefully I wasn't too obnoxious about it. Hell of an album. A beautiful mess.

Enjoy 🍻

Hi Bob! Love the videos, been a fan since that Whole Lotta Red vid, I'd highly reccomend you listen to #FEDERAL by SINN6R, he is the best in the UK underground and based on all the videos ive watched (70+ lol) im sure you'd like it. Loved the Pop Smoke videos btw. Its a really short 20 minute album with amazing transitions and it would mean the world if you reacted to it

Hey it’s not necessarily hip hop but I think you’d like “hunting what we already killed” by Dev Lemons

Hey Bob, After months of pestering you to finally do this album, you actually did it! 😂 (I literally only pay for your Patreon because of Mac Miller lol.) I honestly don’t even know what to say… I just spent two wonderful hours listening to you break down this album, which, to me, comes incredibly close to perfection when it comes to production and sound. Obviously, as always, it’s a complex album because it’s Mac Miller, but I think the ultimate message of this album is that somehow, out of all this chaos, he managed to create one of the most beautiful albums ever made. And I think the conclusion is probably right here… I’m always deeply moved whenever you do a Mac Miller album, and I really hope you’ll eventually react to all of his albums — especially Watching Movies with the Sound Off. That one would honestly mean so much to me. Also, I was wondering… do you think you might ever do Lil Peep? You’ve covered pretty much all the big SoundCloud rap artists, but somehow never him! I’d absolutely love to see you break down either Lil Peep; Part One or Hellboy. I think there’s so much to unpack in both of those projects, especially from a production and songwriting perspective. Thank you so much for all the work you put into this. Sending lots of love from France! ❤️

This is probably my favorite Mac Miller album. His other albums are great, but I feel like I enjoy this one the most consistently from beginning to end. It's a beautiful incredible mess in all the right ways. So glad I finally sat down with this one. AND the bonus tracks were good! Win win. I'd be cool with checking out Lil Peep some time. I don't get a lot of recs for him, but that's alright. It's nice to break out off the bubble sometimes.

same producer worked on both albums (Pomo), so yeah... love Malibu so much, Oxnard and Ventura as well

Loved the way you dug into this. I think Mac’s lyrics have always been quite self aware, and I think the hints of toxicity that you call out are very intentional and I appreciate you giving them the analysis they deserve. I noticed one thing I thought was worth mentioning- during ‘We’, you said that there hadn’t been any acknowledgment of correction or self reflection. There’s a line in there that I think gives some added insight into this. “Yeah, okay, and time will tell If I'm alive and well, 'cause when I'm by myself I find that I keep flying high, sometimes I must remind myself That change is more than pennies laying on the floor inside a well”. I think this goes hand in hand with the fixation on lust you mentioned during the song. When they’re together, the lust takes over. When they’re apart, the drugs take over. He has these moments sprinkled in acknowledging the vices/distractions preventing deeper emotional connection or growth, and that he knows he needs to do more to change the situation. Even so, the distinction between knowing and doing is a big one (though, sometimes the pressure of ‘knowing’ makes the ‘doing’ even harder, and pushes you back to your distractions in order to avoid what you know).

Good point. I definitely lean toward Mac having self awareness through this album. It's almost to the point of so much self awareness that he makes his own vices so overpowering that it drowns out that awareness and the listener is left to struggle with it all just like he did.

Hey Bob, a reaction recommendation. Sincerely, Kentrell by NBA Youngboy. I really believe you would appreciate the musicality of it all, the flow switches and unique Louisiana type beats. It has incredibly introspective lyrics sometimes then action movie music in others. A real stream of consciousness approach from the artiste. Very this is me, fullstop, like it or lump it. It’s all art, I appreciate that you watch every genre of movie on this channel Bob, I’m just recommending you throw a mafia/action movie on next. Cheers
