I haven't watched your reaction so I don't know how you felt about this, but I watched it a few days ago and was very underwhelmed. It just didn't land for some reason. I couldn't connect with it and I felt no emotional investment in the characters. I thought everyone in it was really good and there were some cool and funny moments. And I get that it was trying to be political and get a message across but it felt messy and weak in a way. I kept waiting for the moment it would hit me and I'd suddenly care about the characters, but it never came. I get emotional at the slightest thing in movies, but even Leo reuniting with his daughter made me feel nothing π I think I'm just not a PTA fan. I've seen Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love and Licorice Pizza. I can't say I loved any of them tbh. Boogie Nights was the best but I don't revere it like some people do.
I loved this movie. We went to the theater for it. When Leo does a movie that SPEAKS? It is always exceptional. Killers of the Flower Moon was mwah, so important. The Revenant also π. He is a very good human. Everyone killed it in this. Seeing one of my own people working for the 'white man' made me so disappointed. I also understood the reality behind it. I did appreciate that he was still a character that couldn't go against his boundaries and died to uphold them. Such ridiculous characters. What's wild, truly baffling, is that with how vast our population is there are likely ppl exactly like these characters. To a T type of ppl. I think about that often. The soundtrack was awesome. I loved it. It felt beautifully simple. Just piano and maybe something else almost entirely throughout. Also, Lockjaw looks like a muppet. Your face when Lockjaw came walking up took me out. Willa is a genius. I remember breathing out "that was smart" in the theater. Also some part of my imagination just takes note of smart actions from characters in stressful situations like I will ever need them. π There were parts of this movie that made me legitimately chuckle and others where I just sat in irritation at these pos characters. The Christmas whatever group was π times a billion. Oh and when we were in the theater there were two pairs of ppl that were crazy. The first pair legit got up and left once they realized that this wasn't a story that put the racist ones as the heroes. I truly have no idea how they didn't know that from the trailer let alone the cast. The second pair came into the theater mid way through looked for their seat, saw ppl in them, got confused, left and proceeded to come in and out of the theater for a bit before they just sat down on the steps and spoiled a significant part of the movie for themselves. Idiots didn't understand instructions. Or how to read, clearly given they were told a theater number and showed up in the wrong one. Baffling people.
The French 75 was a cocktail made by a Scottish NYer bar owner in France in 1915, it was called the French 75 after the name of the 75MM Howitzer in the battle of World War I. The cocktail was made of gin, lemon juice, sugar and grenadine.
This movie felt so original and exciting bc I could never predict where it was headed. There were character archetypes that felt fresh and new. Loved it. If youβre interested, the guy who wrote and directed this also directed another Oscar-nominated magnum opus called Magnolia (1999) that you should check out.
