When will we see the surfaces of exoplanets? What non-western telescopes should we expect? Where are all the big promised results from Vera Rubin? And in Q&A+, how to get in space journalism and is it worth it now?

Rubin's data stream has only been for the purpose of testing up until July. They'd take maybe one observation a week and feed it through the pipeline as a test. They did finally start the full survey in June/july, but a massive snowstorm hit chile two weeks in and it's kept the telescope offline since then. So we've only got two weeks total of observations so far, it'll finally (finally) begin in another few weeks
Hi, i very much appreciate your work, I'm enjoying watching your videos, they are so much informative and entertaining, I would love to have the possibility to support you and your team, but life it's hard, sorry. My question is some kind of misunderstanding the fisics of the universe. If I'm standing on the Earth I open a flashlight it is supposed that the speed of the fotons emitted from my flashlight is traveling with the speed of light from my point of view, but from some other person , maybe stationary from my situation did he see the same light with the speed of light plus the speed of Earth . Does this means that the laws of fisics are broken? Can you please elaborate this topic if you can. Thank you and thanks destin for gave me the opportunity to find , finaly my passion, universe, finding your videos. P.S. by the way I find very special your point of view to the sponsor/publicly problem, all the respect from me
You're literally describing the thought experiment that Einstein developed that led to General Relativity. No matter where you are, what speed you're going, you're going to see all the photons going at the speed of light. The only way that's possible if your experience time can change. That's why we get time dilation, because photons must always be perceived as moving the speed of light.
Glad you're enjoying the Cotswolds, Bath is a lovely city to finish up in. If you ever visit again I would highly recommend the South Downs Way, 100km and lots of history along the route

You can get a bunch of pixels of an exoplanet with a reasonable-size telescope if you put it on a probe out to 500+AU and use the solar gravitational lens. Of course, you could probably only use that scope for one star system, so you’d need to pick a target worth a whole flagship mission. Only system I can think of right now is TRAPPIST, but maybe you could do it for Proxima and then search Alpha Centauri, though they’re actually surprisingly far away from each other in the sky.
Don't forget about that most utilitarian of food for extraterrestrial colonies: Soylent Green!
Great advice for those interested in reporting on all of the fantastic space news! We live in a very exciting time!
bare with me.. lol, i asked about rubin data fire hose last week, and i got excited that maybe my question was being answered... it isn't my first question, it isn't super important and you actually covered it answering others... but i wanted to share, that excitement happened. as a regular viewer, i constantly wonder how many people ask a question, and then never see the response. has to be more than 1... my immediate solution thought, was to maybe pin the user names that get answered, in the thumbnail? this way people can see their own user name, and reduce even by 1, then number of questions that get asked and not seen by the ask-oor. really appreciate the work, and the grind. amazing arc to be a part of. great stuffs (ps - i think old thumbnails can be re-done too)
