[Interview+] This Crazy Robot Could Explore the CAVES of Titan | NIAC 2026

BONUS PART STARTS AT 32:27

Watch here (with no ads) or on YouTube: https://youtu.be/6h5It3GnTGI

Titan Dragonfly is one of the most exciting missions in development. But it'll have its limits. For example, it won't go into caves on Titan. Which are super interesting. But this NIAC project will study a robot that should be able to go there.

titan is a place you can survive with only a rebreather, a dry suit, and a half meter of insulation as suit, along with a impermeable gas barrier, because you are basically molten lava there.

Has anybody ever thought that we have superconductors that quite happily work at 90 Kelvin? And using them in the correct way, could completely negate the need for batteries Also considering the advantages the atmosphere of Titan give they could be able to use these superconductors to hover a vehicle

Very informative interview. I didn't realize that you could push the surrounding atmosphere with ion engines in that way. Using that on titan sounds like it hits quite a few sweet spots. NIAC is so full of interesting ideas, love it. Am I the only one that got paperclip maximizer vibes in the last section? I like the idea of scavenger bots to clean up waste, but please don't mess up the limiter! I don't want to be forced to produce waste for our robot overlords when I retire, just so they can clean up more and more of the stuff to buy more parts. That is a privilege reserved for the software industry...
