[Q&A+] What's The Deal With Helium-3?

BONUS QUESTION STARTS AT 14:11

Watch the video here (with no ads) or on YouTube: https://youtu.be/N6HOGQsrf0c

Is Helium-3 the real reason for the modern-day space race? Could there be an undetectable death ray coming towards us? Where's the best place to stargaze? And in Q&A+, where will Artemis missions land?

Did Egyptians have fission/fusion devices in their little purses?

I’d very much doubt it! 🙂

I have cell phone photos of aurora, unfortunately videos at f/2, 2 second exposures is tough. Maybe with larger aperture scope at f/2 like RASA8 might work. Will find out soon.

HeLion is expecting their next fusion reactor (50MW) to go live in 2028, with energy efficiency above 90%, with no mechanical moving parts in the power train. That facility broke ground in Chelan County WA (aka Apples) next to Columbia River power plants running Microsoft servers.

That’s interesting. I know on a small scale there’s been some success with fusion, but I think it’ll be a while before it replaces fission for our energy needs.

Helium-3 has 2 protons and one neutron and is incredibly rare compared to Helium-4 (2 neutrons, 2 protons). The abundance of 3He on the moon is thought to have been deposited in regolith from cosmic rays. I’m sure helium-3 can be produced in small amounts from the beta decay of tritium. Yes, working with 3He is preferable due to it being non radioactive but apart from neutron detection and cryogenics, I can’t find much in the way of uses for it from what I’ve read.

“We would have a bad day” 😂 Quite the understatement. Now I’m wondering how long it would take for the effects to wipe us out, or a lot of life anyway. I’m still betting we (humans) would survive but it wouldn’t be fun.

Totally agreed as it will be much scarier. It will be exactly like nuclear fallout after Atom Bombs on Japan, just without the initial blast, so we will NOT realise we have been hit by it (barring some Satelliet disruption) until we all start to get cancer and skin loss. Bad way to go. lol

I'm sure there are many great stargazing places in Alaska, depending upon the time of year.
