[Space Bites+] Sweet Sweet Asteroid // JWST On TRAPPIST-1e // China’s Big Science Plans
Sugar in asteroid samples. Searching for an atmosphere at TRAPPIST 1e. China’s Space science missions for the next 5 years, and NASA loses contact with MAVEN. On Space Bites+, is Venus more volcanically active than we thought?

Is that a Borg Cube?
If time and space are entwined (spacetime) wouldn’t time have been “created” with space and so asking what happened before the Big Bang wouldn’t make sense?
If the Moon is out when a meteor shower is happening on Earth, could a powerful enough telescope allow you to see meteor strikes on the moon as well? The Moon must pass through comet debris just like the Earth does, but are the debris fields wide enough to hit at more or less the same time?

QUESTION Hi Fraser, listening to your story on the Trappist system made me think of Dr Kipping's frustrating/ambiguous result from studying Kepler-167e. With such a rich data set from all the Trappist observations/transits could there be a moon signal buried in all that data? Perhaps the astronomers are so busy studying Trappist atmospheres no one has thought to look for moons?
I'd say it was worth it for the space bites+ But Fraser, I wish you'd tell us to watch it here at the start of the video, so we could just watch the full video here, instead of having to skip to the bonus. I'll forget to do it myself. Just a suggestion :)
QUESTION: So, it seems that having plate tectonics and a moon massive enough to created significant tidal effects COULD be the keys to having complex life on earth. Have you heard of anyone thinking about how we could find signatures of plate tectonics on exoplanets?
Planets without plate tectonics that still have molten insides have periodic massive volcanic eruptions and lava flows over large areas of their surface. Planets with tectonics have water oceans and less massive eruptions. There may be chemical signatures, especially high CO2 and Sulphur compounds, that differentiate these two planet profiles. I asked ChatGPT about this and got the answer at: https://chatgpt.com/share/693cf580-6dc0-8005-a0ea-500a7ff4f83d
The reason Venus doesn't have plate tectonics is not a mystery. Venus doesn't have much water because its lack of a strong magnetic field resulted in the hydrogen in its water being stripped off by the Sun and blown out into the solar system (afterwhich the oxygen was bound with carbon in resulting in the planet's current crushing 90 bar CO2 dominated atmosphere). Water is what lubricates tectonic plate circulation. Without it there are no Earth-like plate tectonics.
You correctly point out the one thing that Venus and Mars have in common that seems critical: a lack of magnetic field which shields from the solar wind.
on one of NASA's websites eyes on the solar system it shows whatever time it got to mars to currently
