Build your own rex addons
You can now build your own addons for rex. An addon is a small program that tells rex what it has over rex's feed API and serves the videos when someone presses play, and whatever it brings shows up as a library in every Plex app. zurg is just one source among them and yours gets the same treatment.
It takes three things. Your addon serves the bytes, a file with range requests or an HLS stream. It registers with rex to name itself and declare its libraries, and then it sends a snapshot of every video with an id that never changes and ffprobe's output. For things no Plex agent knows, like home videos or recordings, you send the title, summary, date and pictures yourself.
I wrote a guide that walks through every step, the rules that trip people up and how to troubleshoot: https://notes.debridmediamanager.com/rex/addons/
I also built two addons you can use right now or read as examples. rex-stremio turns your Stremio addons' catalogs into Plex libraries and plays from your stream addons, and nothing is downloaded: https://github.com/debridmediamanager/rex-stremio
rex-live-sports puts the channels of a live-sports server into a Live Sports library, with each channel's logo and a collection per group, and they play live. live-sports itself is at https://github.com/yowmamasita/live-sports-public and the addon at https://github.com/debridmediamanager/rex-live-sports
Both are one Python file each, so they're short reads. You need a rex nightly from 2026.10.26 or newer.
Build your own addon and show me what you make! There will be more!

Will there be a central place to share addons, or is the intention to only build for yourself with AI tools?
