Dev Update: What happened, the new look, and the next release
Hey everyone,
First of all, I owe you an apology for having gone quiet for so long. Things have been pretty chaotic on my end these past few months, and I didn't want to keep posting vague "it's coming" messages without something real to show you. Today I finally have proper news, and some images to go with them.
What happened
A few months ago, some of you heard that I was having PC problems. Well, they weren't exactly small problems: two of my hard drives decided to die at the same time, taking with them both the main project and its backup. Just like that, around three months of work were gone overnight.
Luckily, Nakito, one of my Discord moderators, still had a copy of the project. It was an older one, from about three months back, but it saved the game from having to be rebuilt from scratch. I can't thank him enough.
On top of the data loss, I also went through a bit of writer's block at the end of last year, and between one thing and the other, the update has been delayed far more than I would have liked. I'm truly sorry for the silence.
What I've been working on
The good news: this time hasn't been wasted. Rebuilding parts of the project gave me the chance to fix and improve things I had wanted to tackle for a long time:
A redesigned art system. I've rebuilt the way the game creates and handles its art, with one big goal in mind: making the mobile version feasible again.
A fresh new look. With some help, I've been reworking several parts of the game, with repainted backgrounds, updated character art and rebuilt scenes, to give everything a fresher, more vivid style. For now the new look covers Hana, Rina and the world around them; the rest of the girls will get theirs in future updates.
A polished early game. The prologue and several early scenes have been reworked with the new art, so the first hours of the game look better than ever.

What's next
The next update will be focused on Hana, and here is what it will bring:
Hana's story continues. Her main storyline moves forward with a whole new chapter.
Reworked scenes. From the game's opening onward, Hana's and Rina's existing scenes are being rebuilt with the new art and expressive character sprites, so it's the perfect time for a fresh start.
A new coat of paint. New backgrounds for the house, the town and the mall, plus fully updated art for Hana and Rina, the first two to get the new style.
And the best part is that I expect to have it ready by the end of this month or early next month.

One more thing: I know the silence has been the worst part of all this. From now on I'll be posting a dev update at least once a month, even if it's just a short one, so you always know where things stand. And yes, lesson learned: the project now lives in more than two places.

Oh wow I was wondering what happened to you... that definitely does suck though, sorry you had to experience that. I remember way back when I was a bit too frisky and decided to play your games but ended up actually becoming way too invested into the story lol. Keep up the great work. Ill resub soon.

It would have been much better if you hadn't just gone completely silent and had instead told us what happened. Maybe people wouldn't see it as an excuse then. Although, I have to admit, the whole situation is extremely suspicious... Every once in a while, I see the same excuses: hardware problems, illness, or some other nonsense. It seems like AVN devs are constantly getting sick (or have someone in their family on their deathbed), having hardware failures, dealing with writer's block, and so on... Two hard drives dying at the same time and taking out both the main project and its backup is quite a coincidence. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the timing is certainly suspicious. And honestly, losing three months of work because apparently the only usable backup was an older copy is exactly why you keep proper backups in multiple locations.

This is a bit of a preference thing but I do like the older lightings shading a bit more than the new one. The orange/yellow hue from the light definitely set a tone of homey, comforting, and in some cases even romantic. But thats just my opinion on the lighting. The actual art changes look good.
Thank you for being open and honest about the situation. I only wished you told us sooner and kept us updated monthly. I am glad that these changes are being made however. It’s a step in the right direction.

What a happy day! Thank you so much for not abandoning this project; I admit I had actually lost hope, but this news has completely made my day. I hope there are many more updates to come and that this project sees it through to the end with its deep, captivating stories and the immense care put into it. Also, the new artwork is incredible—great work.
