Episode 27: Penske Purgatory AKA The Freedom 250
Howdy everyone! We did it, we recorded our final thoughts on the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington D.C.
This episode is fully focused on the race, our experiences at it, and how we sorted through our feelings in the days afterwards. We want to welcome all of our new listeners who found us through Youtube or our threads on Bluesky about our time on the ground, and we once again want to thank all of our Patrons as we literally couldn't have done this without y'all.
I also want to thank everyone who came out to our meetup Saturday night, as it was maybe the one redeeming part of the whole weekend!
As always, our opening theme is off Stella Spazzatura's Horse Tranquilizer Simulator, and our editor (who you should hire!!!!) is Alex aka Harmful Park!

I'm technically on thin fuckin ice. (((;ꏿ_ꏿ;)))
HEY VICTORIA I just want you to know you're the first English speaker I've heard say "blåhaj" correctly. Thank you for your efforts, they are much appreciated.
The corvette only 21 cylinder salute for those corvette owners we lost during 9/11 is maybe the closest i could come to describing modern American culture to like, an alien.
Jordan is too real with that term “gender stolen valor”… 😅😅😅
Not sure if it has been mentioned previously, but there seems to be a bit of audio desync that creeps in by the end of the podcast. It only really becomes noticeable around the name shoutouts at the end.
Jordan here; upon listening back to it, and my own memory, I think we literally just talk over each other a lot with the names.
Can't wait for the coverage of the freedom 300 indy car race in 50 years
This all Trans version of Fear and Loathing in DC was fantastic. Got me to sub and I look forward to more.
hey I mean ... if you wanna see F1 on the american continent minus most of the bad vibes there's always Montreal
Y'know it's kinda fucked up that I'm a VA/DC local and avoided the GP like the plague yet I was partially responsible for funding Vickie and Jordan's Bogus Journey. Your report was greatly appreciated. Hanging with folks at the DC meetup was the best part of my weekend too!
1:45:09 “Being a closeted teenager was a time.” Giiiiiiirrrrrrrllll, being a repressed, teenage, trans girl, so deep in the closet sssooooo beyond Narnia… because, rural Minnesota in the early 90s. Now, that was fun, let me tell you.
I mean, I knew since I was 4-6, but I had to hide it, because adult disapproval. But things kinda started manifesting at 14…
the whole like "I want to be among the people to burn the last gasoline we're gonna get" feeling is part of why I compromised my position of never having a car by getting a motorcycle .. prevents me from becoming lazy about it I guess
omg genderoftheday tumblr..... i was bullied into staying in the closet at 15 cause a tenderqueer enby i knew irl started cyberbullying me for reblogging "genderoftheday: the atlantic ocean" without being an out transsexual. crazy times
I'm trans who is cardamorir/cardemonir/the name from the intro should I know who that is?
Cardemom rear? Cardis mon rehr? Cardis?
OMFG the “15 seconds Corvette exhaust remembrance” SENT me 🤣💀🤣💀🤣 Also F Yeah to the Udvar-Hazy center! One of the most hauntology-of-progress-dense places around. Besides the Enola Gay, Concorde, SR-71, and Space Shuttle, there’s a Sparrowhawk tucked into the southeast corner for the real ones (and by that I mean Crimson Skies perverts).
Congratulations on the job !
Saying it felt like the 1937 Berlin Olympics, racially, is really striking. For some years I went annually to a week-long research event at the convention center, which is <1 km NE of the White House, and it was really visible (and enjoyable) how Black DC is, at least compared to Boston. So it says a lot if those folks were conspicuously absent at/around the race.
I mentioned this briefly in our 15 minute recap but this race was noticeably *much* whiter than DC at large, to the point it was hard to believe it was in DC
Thank you for your service.

Haruka Tenoh is Sailor Uranus, the masc one who *everyone* is gay for. For more information check out the Japanese twitter clips of JP lesbians thirsting for the woman currently playing Haruka/Uranus in the live stage production
So less of a grand prix and more of some grand pricks then?
ayooooo!
I prefer the label “Horny Ally.”
Okay so, if I may I suggest, going to a 24hrs of lemons race be a fascinating counter point to the experience you all had.
Hey Jordan, come feel free to have a bad time in Vegas because we have a Kura and a couple bland knockoffs
the great american shit street track tradition.
To be serious, I think broadly the reason we as a country have culminated in this, unreal empty avarice is because the broad project of white supremacy we've been engaged in since before the country was even founded is and can only be a project of excision: that we can only define what America means by what we're not is kinda the core reason for most of not all of the weird shit going on in this era like, the reason for tradcaths, read wives, the reason evangelical protestantism is about making an understanding of the universe as small as possible, the reason we have no associated aesthetic, hell the reason straight pride is both a thing and one that never has attendees, it's all just trying to figure out who is not rather than figuring out what this country could mean. Like, for all her tackiness at least Dolly Parton was someone trying to express America in something than includes and builds and like, idk I think it's a long battle ahead but I do think whatever this existence here is like, whether United or not we can and will reach a point where this current era feels like a bad dream idk I'm rambling but thanks y'all for this episode it got me thru a stressful friday
also next race you go to should be your own: do go carting for an ep, or honestly just in general
The next race you cover should keep the "terrible street circuit" theme, but replace the fascist iconography with pure greenwashing. That's right, Formula E.
Hey! I worked hard on that!
Your efforts are appreciated!
The troop transport dune buggy type vehicle rules cuz we literally made a vehicle that is itself cannon fodder
I’m a cis guy who drives a Camry, and I feel so called out by the intro. You’re both awesome
