My dad died when I was 11, but instead of repeating a grade like DB had to - my mom just told the district we were doing "homeschooling" instead. So I spent all of 7th grade playing Neopets, watching Homestarrunner, & making mixed drinks for my mom while she progressively spiraled into alcoholism. Aside from the whole dead dad thing it was really fucking awesome.
