Pirate Treasure 2

Because beach combing isn't quite lucrative enough! This is a rewrite of the original Pirate Treasure Mod, and is now Base Game compatible! It will hide the treasure in the regions corresponding to the packs you have installed, as well as take advantage of pack-specific features when possible.

What this mod does

It adds a new type of treasure map, named 'Pirate Treasure Map', that is labeled with a location that refers to a specific neighborhood. If you travel to that neighborhood, then click on the ground or on the appropriate Pirate Treasure Map, your Sim will search for and find a dirt pile to dig up and find a Pirate Treasure chest. Opening the chest will give your Sim various treasure items, as well other potential bonuses if they have the Collector or Treasure Hunter trait.

How to find a treasure map

There are random chances of finding treasure maps when:

  • Digging up random dirt or sand piles (in any region)

  • Looking for Frogs

  • Fishing

  • Beachcombing (requires Island Living)

  • Diving for treasure in the ocean in Sulani (requires Island Living)

  • By exploring the cave near Mua Pel'am in Sulani. (requires Island Living)

  • Exploring crypts (requires Life & Death)

  • Searching the Ancient Archives (requires Life & Death)

  • Excavating archaeological dig piles (requires Jungle Adventure)

  • Omiscan treasure chests (requires Jungle Adventure)

  • Searching for Tomes (requires Realm of Magic)

  • Werewolf Scavenging (requires Werewolves)

  • Playing in Sand Piles (requires Wedding Stories)

  • Being handed one by a small animal (requires Cottage Living)

  • Excavating Metals or Crystals (requires my Minecrating mod)

  • Searching for Family Memorabilia (requires my Family History mod)

  • Upon discovering Legendary Adventurer or Pirate ancestors (requires my Family History mod)

Also, treasure chests that you find and open may have another pirate treasure map inside them.

The random chances range from very low for things like fishing to 100% certain (finding Adventurer or Pirate ancestors). I tried to make sure you don't end up walking around with 100 maps, but find enough treasure to make a living at it if you look for it. If a sim has the Collector or Treasure Hunter traits, they have about double the chances of finding maps and getting bonus treasure.

How to find the treasure for a map

Each pirate treasure map is labeled in the tooltip with a Location label that indicates where the treasure can be found. This location will be a neighborhood restricted to the packs currently installed. For example, if you have Life & Death installed, you might find a map pointing to treasure in Ravenwood. If you don't have it installed, you won't get any maps pointing to Ravenwood.

To find the treasure, you go to any lot in the neighborhood indicated on the map, click on the map in your inventory, or click on the ground, and select Find Pirate Treasure. Your Sim will look around for a moment, then a dirt pile will appear and your Sim will walk over to it. You can then dig up the dirt pile to find the treasure chest. Open it, and your Sim will receive the treasure inside.

Treasure

There are 6 styles of treasure chests with slightly different mixtures of loot.

  • Gold Ingot

  • Stack of Gold Ingots

  • Gold Coin

  • Stack of Gold Coins

  • Stack of Simoleons

  • Multiple Stacks of Simoleons

  • Diamond

  • Emerald

  • Ruby

  • Necklace

  • Golden Statue

  • Jeweled Omiscan Golden Frog

  • Golden Omiscan Plate

  • Key to the Forgotten Grotto

  • Various Aspiration Reward Potions

What is a neighborhood?

In case you haven't noticed it before, each cluster of lots in each region is labeled with a neighborhood name. You can view them by clicking on the little neighborhood icons on the map. You can walk between each of the lots in a neighborhood, such as within Willow Creek's Foundry Cove or San Myshuno's Spice District, but you cannot walk between different neighborhoods. This mod hides buried treasure in all of the neighborhoods you have installed in your game, up to Ondarion from the Royalty pack, including the parks and hidden lots such as the Sylvan Glade.

Required Packs:

None! Works with base game. Will detect what packs you have installed and work with those.

As luck would have it, I'm doing a rewrite right now (someone told me it was broken last week -- comment below). It's basically done and I'm doing final testing right now. Lots of additions in this one -- hopefully it will be posted by the weekend. Thanks for the feedback!

I can't remember if this is the mod I tried using before or I stumbled upon another treasure one but I really love the idea of this. Is this still compatible? Also I don't know if you saw my other comment but my last exceptions were different than yours. I did see however that many other mods was upated again so I'm hoping maybe it was because of other mods I believe that's a thing idk lol but I"m going to update stuff again and see if I get the error. Is there a more convenient way to contact you?

This mod relies on the XML Injector which was throwing exceptions after the patch until the recent update to 4.2. It is available here by clicking Download: https://scumbumbomods.com/xml-injector/ I just checked it myself, and once I updated the XML Injector, it worked without errors (and found pirate maps, chests, etc). You can use my email if you need to send me a file or something. it's here: simsonianlibrary@gmail.com .

Hi there! I just wanted to say how much I love your Pirate Treasure mod [and all of your other A+ gameplay mods] It's such a creative and immersive idea! I've been using it while playing a story-heavy Sims save, and it's added a wonderful layer of exploration. I was wondering if you might be open to a quick question or two about how it works behind the scenes? I'm experimenting with a themed gameplay setup inspired by a strange blend of Planescape:: Torment and Baldur’s Gate 3 (I can't access my main gaming rig right now, so I'm doing a fantasy-style playthrough in The Sims instead). Your mod is already a great fit, and I’d love to build on it a little if it's feasible. My hope is to: * Add custom CC items (some usable, some decorative) as randomized loot inside the treasure chests. * Use different types of chests to give a little more variety Is it possible to use more varied objects as loot and use different chests [to have the aesthetic of the chest match the lot/world/neighborhood]? I’d completely understand if it’s complex or if certain parts are hardcoded. I’m just curious about how you approached it and whether a variation like this might work. Thanks so much for your time, and again, amazing work on the mod! It really enhances exploration in a fun, CRPG-like way.

it's great to hear that people still enjoy this mod! I know it's one of my fallbacks when a sim needs a little cash to pay the rent, lol. I've been thinking of where I might go with it for awhile. I want to add all of the streets as map destinations. There are 92 of them, so I've been looking for a more streamlined way to handle it than the way I am now, but I have some ideas about that now. I like the idea of more variety in the stuff you find. I'm not sure I can come up with entirely theme-appropriate chests and treasure, but there are a lot of possibilities. I'll keep that in mind -- after I read your comment, I picked up the code for it and started thinking about it again. Thanks for the feedback!

It looks like the mod doesn't work anymore since the update.

I'll take a look at that after work today. It's the only mod I have that uses the XML Injector, but I hadn't heard it broke again. I may just include my own script if that's the case. Thanks for the feedback!
