By Tracing this new Path together shall we BOND

Hey, I'm waxing poetic today!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3321460/Crimson_Desert/ got its Friday update and it broke a little. You can go to our usual place to download the new early access release of R.E.A.L. (v2609.18.2) which will allow you to keep playing this never-ending experience in VR.

But more importantly, as you probably know, https://store.steampowered.com/app/3768760/007_First_Light/ just released a major update that adds full Path Tracing support to the game. In case you're suffering from a surplus of fps, and you need to find a way to throw away some of that performance, you can install the official patch and the latest version of my framework, to enjoy DL(S)SS-RR in all its visual glory. And to really kill your frame rate, on top of that you can even add photorealistic wrinkles!!

Just joking of course. The graphical improvements are huge and nothing to laugh at. Yeah, it would be wonderful if NVIDIA added support for Frame Generation to VR, so we could have the eye candy without grinding into slideshow territory. But while we wait for that (spoiler: never gonna happen) we do have AER v2 to somehow interpolate our way into smooth rendering.

The latest R.E.A.L. VR release also fixes ReShade chainloading (needed for add-on support, see the bottom half of this post for details) for https://store.steampowered.com/app/2842040/Star_Wars_Outlaws/ so that you can have DLSS 5 in space!

hi wondering if somebody has the same issue (or even better, a solution): in CD the HUD (minimap etc.) vanishes when looking in certain directions. for example it is always there when looking down, when looking up or in specific angles it vanishes. tried updating everyting but no luck. using pimax dream air with pimax play and default auto/oculus runtime in real mod. thanks! and despite this issue CD in VR is just.. wow

That is an issue with Pimax itself unfortunately. Have you tried using Sboys3's SteamVR driver for it yet? That might correct issues like that. If you haven't, it is worth trying!

Question, Brandon or anyone who might know. So I was fortunate to get a Steam Frame, (just came in today), and I’m putting it through it’s paces. Everything is going great! Except on Luke’s mods my controller is not responding. I’ve tried plugging it in and out, disabled the Steam input. Nothing. The keyboard works, (don’t want to play like that though.) Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated, happy VR gaming all!

I don't know. That is always the risk of new hardware and software :) I would think you probably need Steam Input enabled for the controller. You could drop a link to a log file while the controller is plugged in just in case it gives any messages there.

so I just picked up 007 First Light and I was wondering if it is expected for hud to be out of view (unless force hud to flat toggled of course) and for examining items to not "work" unless flipping entirely to flat? or is there something messed up in my setup?

I honestly haven't played that one much. If there are no HUD sliders in the 007 tab of the REAL overlay, try the normal or aiming HUD sliders in the main tab.

This is worth a look for those with high resolution headsets like a Pimax running through steam. The developer dropped this version today and it works exceptionally well with UEVR stereo, but it's also showing benefits on LRFramework games. I wasn't impressed with the other versions of OFXR but this one is doing some black magic for my Pimax Dream Air running Sboys3 through OpenXR via SteamVR. https://github.com/djules75/OFXR-Bridge/releases/tag/0.2.4 A little input lag, some artifacts, but you can push the game resolution much higher. It doesn't interface with Cheeky yet (maybe the reshade addon will?)Give it a try and let me know what you think. UPDATE: New versions of Cheeky and OFXR work together now according to the developer.

Thanks for sharing - i am back on the steam train so will test it out - so this is really for pushing the resolution higher yeah?

Ok who’s doing Control Resonant, Luke is it you? Or does NoMoreFlat take the reins after his decent job with Control. Or do you both do it and try and get it out out in the next 8 hours so I can play after work.

FYI https://github.com/ClarkCheekyKent/CheekyFoveatedDLSS/blob/master/standalone/README.md Works on Crimson Desert if you have an openxr hmd. I used the version.dll but didn't try the dxgi2.dll trick. Worked flawlessly.

Also, would you consider porting this vertical camera pitch to some of the earlier games. Like Crimson Desert and 007 and some of the games getting so much maintenance and updates from you each month, would be awesome if you look at some of the earlier games too. It's really uncomfortable to play especially 3rd person stealth action games without a vertical camera pitch. Nearly every other VR mods have it. But not yours. It's the most basic VR accessibility feature. My favorite games to play with your VR mod are Ghost of Tsushima, Last Of Us Part 1, SW Outlaws, Horizon 1&2, Uncharted, Watch Dogs 2. Please consider making camera pitch available to these games, since these are 3rd person perspective and we're playing seated. Thanks. (ps this feature finally made Spider-Man playable after all this time. I was asking this a year ago also but went unnoticed)

With the latest version, there's this Oculus Debug Tool CLI.exe keeps popping up. Unless I close it it stops the game from going to VR. Also when I close it, it pops up again. I have to close it again. It wasn't like this before, also I think it tanks my framerate. Makes everything laggy on my PC while it's open. Using Quest 3, Virtual Dekstop, runtime set to VDXR. Even if I select OpenXR on Reshade overlay, this Oculus Debug Tool CLI.exe still keeps opening itself. I was already subbed in earlier versions, tried that, and there's no popup. So it must be one of the latest versions. What am I doing wrong?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · September 23, 2026

I am not sure why it seems to pop up for some people so much. I have had it happen but never a constant and only a few times out of many. It has happened to people rarely going back years I think. Have you tried rebooting your system or closing Oculus services in task manager at all? The few times I had it happen I just closed the popup and things seemed to work fine.

Just a heads-up: it's OK to update CD to patch 2.03.01, it didn't break anything in VR!

J
Justin · September 22, 2026

Wow, I saw something in patch notes about it fixing lantern tracking, so figured for sure it would break it! Does anyone know how to force Steam to not update? Really stupid there is not a setting I can change to stop updates.

Had a question. I haven't got the latest REAL. Since you added reshade addon support, would Shader Toggler work? With any game as long as I'm replacing the dxgi with the latest one? Some game HUDs are really distracting in VR and if shader toggler works I'll sub again

Haven't gotten around to actually trying it yet. I installed it and it seemed to load but never actually tried using it. Give it a shot :)
