Another perfect podcast for getting my steps in. ;). And sort of a non sequitur, but have you guys considered looking into RP communities in virtual worlds like Second Life? I’ve been doing (relatively non-sexy) research on SL for years, and the adult RP communities there are still around and worth shining a light on.
Finished listening today and enjoyed the in-depth breakdown of a game I probably won't play. I'll raise this on the next show I'm on, but I'm curious what Annie and the fans would recommend to me as a few "must-plays" in adult gaming for me to have a stronger sense of what's out there. My general opinion is that adult games seem years behind mainstream games in storyline, character depth, strategy, etc., over the "porny" elements. Which I understand is what many people want, but as an industry, I think more integrative depth will be necessary for it to ever move past a niche category.
call me a hipster if you want, but maybe it'd be a good thing if it stayed a niche category? not everything needs to have mainstream appeal.
Call Your Heart
Regarding the most important qualities to attract players, I wonder if there's a significant difference between what entices people to give a game a chance vs. what keeps them interested long term. For me at least, story and characters are a huge factor in which games I keep playing past one or two sessions.
damn, i was looking forward to Future Fragments. i'll still probably check it out when it's on sale. i *loved* Flip Witch tho.
Flavor/renders sure, but after that the next thing that usually makes me alt+f4 is bad writing. You just can't escape it, and in VN it's a big part of the game. Even if the story is completely generic, you can make it decent with some non-horrible writing that I can decipher easily.
28:00 Regarding time limits what about dating sims were if you fail the time limit it resets back to start but you keep all your progress for example Persona 5 does that with time limits if you fail to start or finish a palace before the time limit.
I really love Future Fragments always love adult games with lots of epic gaming gameplay and always love classic metroidvania games. Yeah theres unfinished stuff hopefully we eventually get updates for the rest of the game.
3:35 There’s sfw yuri usually just goes oh they are just really close friends which is often focused on a female audience. Erotic nsfw yuri is mainly focused on a male or lesbian audience.
2:05 Rance started in 1989 on the Japanese PC98 computer the original games were also ported to MS Dos and Japanese Windows 95 in 90s I believe. 1989 Rance: The Quest for Hikari 1990 Rance II: The Rebellious Maidens 1991 Rance III: The Fall of Leazas 1993 Rance IV: The Legacy of Sect 1995 Kichikuou Rance
