Where this argument falls apart to me is that the grinding of the machine of online mob hate doesn’t just go to people that sign up for it. There was this viral mob hate against that PHD graduate Dr. ally louks (i think?) who got such a ridiculous amount of hate for posting a graduation picture, essentially because she was a woman and people didn’t like her area of study. The idea that you can just get an angry mob calling you vile shit that’s multiple orders of magnitude bigger than your original following for no reason at all is genuinely dystopian. And I don’t think the idea that “she signed up for it” for having the audacity to post a graduation photo holds up at all.

jo · October 27, 2026

I don't think that this makes Nick's argument fall apart. Everyone agrees that there's an evil machine that will sometimes grind people up. I think what Nick is saying is that when you sign up to be a content creator, you put yourself potentially in grinding range of that machine. It's a risk you take, especially when youre big, and it shouldnt be unexpected. In your example, the woman didn't sign up for it, she's just a really unlucky victim of the machine. It sucks but wcyd? Mob mentality on the internet is pretty crazy these days

49:10 is literally just the plot of the horror game SOMA, like 1 to 1. is it bad that that kinda fills me with dread, that a horror game (a thing meant for fantastical entertainment) is ever so slowly reaching feasibility. I know it’s just a joke on the pod but it really does just feel icky.

Sorry I’m tardy to the party, but can someone give me a TIL on what the boys are referring to with Ludwig’s issues on Twitter? I’m primarily a Ludwig/Ludwin and Yard/YardDnD watcher, so I think I’m missing context from a livestream. Does this have something to do with Clav and the streamer awards? I saw a vid where the title had to do with streamer award nominations and saw Clav in the thumbnail and thought “ah he’s doing joke nominations” and skipped the vid; is that really what people got mad about?

I find the example from Aiden saying someone making 70k a year off being a food influencer is strange just cause it takes a lot more effort than he is giving credit to make that kind of money for the average person. I make 40k with an accounting degree. I am expecting to make 75k once I get my CPA. Hilarious to me that a smaller creator is one that makes almost as much as I would after passing one of the hardest exams in America.

A
Aiden McCaig · October 5, 2026

I mean no disrespect here because it absolutely takes a lot of work to lock down a job that will pay you $70k/yr, but 70k is basically median income in the US when you look at the full spectrum of earners. It's certainly within the spectrum of a "normal" amount to make. That's ignoring that the person in my example (a smaller creator relative to us) would be in like the top 1% or higher of what she does - the bulk of people making content online are making way less (which is fine IMO I'm just saying that like she should in no way be seen as the default in that regard). The point I was making is that the bulk of people making money online are making nowhere near the fuck you money that people see as the moral pass to be cruel to them.

eleonar crimson · October 4, 2026

The meat and potatoes of the Ludwig palestine thing is the difference between "calling in" and "calling out". I am in the spaces of left wing people who do consider ludwig as like a gateway for people to go on a journey of right wing radicalization. And it's really easy to be convinced of that. What I disagree with is he could that gateway but not because of moral failures from his soul but because of the environment he makes content in. And when someone like him that tries to make his environment a safe one, unlike a lot of content creators, the position you have to take is calling him in when he make mistakes so that he gets right his wrongs not calling him out at every juncture so that you witness his downfall. But people are unable to call in because they do not consider ludwig to be a regular guy who needs interventions just because of the wealth and influence he has accumulated. I have been in that yin n Yang about other creators before and I still am sometimes(atrioc). It's a hard hole to dig yourself out of.

The Sri Lankan bot farm talk is funny, but the reality is most of these accounts are people being paid cents an hour to create accounts and spread these political ideas. Basically just paid propaganda outsourced to a different country with cheaper labor, and relatively easy access to the internet.

A
Aiden McCaig · October 5, 2026

The point of the convo is that they don't need to be paid by the hour to do it. The incentives have democratized spreading propaganda for profit. People are doing it of their own accord, not being paid by some larger org, because they don't need to be.

Ludwig did deserve the gears for the clav thing though ngl. Don't believe he actually supports the stuff clav did obviously but making a top streamers list and putting a well known piece of human garbage on it and talking in any positive way about him isn't excusable just because he's ignorant to what clavs done. And in all honesty he shouldn't have been ignorant about it in the first place it's all over the place and for someone who's entire job is social media it's VERY hard to believe he never saw any of the fucked up shit clav did.

Slime, Caedrel rules if you watched some of his solo streams I think you'd probably like him. He seems to get nervous and feel like he doesn't belong with other streamers (even though he averages bw 50-100k viewers), but if you're going to watch Worlds at all this year check him out he's great.

T

b
bee · October 2, 2026

Enjoyed this discussion. I think I have left comments about this in multiple places at this point, but the QTCinderella/VanillaMace drama from a while back fully broke my brain on the way this stuff happens online. I sympathise with Nick's point that on some level it's part of the value proposition of being a successful streamer, but I also really sympathise with someone like QT struggling with people having such a bad-faith misinterpretation of her character, and being incredibly mean about it. Ludwig does seem to have the unique ability to have perspective on it, but he's the exception. Also, it's so ironic to hear Slime saying streaming is one of the last "real" forms of content creation bc it's hard to fake with AI, considering how low his opinion of streaming as a content medium was at the beginning of the show. I don't think his positions are contradictory at all lol, it's just a sign of the wretched times we live in. Wcyd.

J
Jamie · October 1, 2026

I looked up the Ludwig Clav thing and… it’s pretty bad. I mean it’s good that he walked it back after the allegations but the things Clavicular says and does should disqualify him for consideration for streamer of the year. By nominating him, the event is essentially endorsing what he says and it legitimizes the evil shit he proselytizes. I’m not gonna shit on Lud for this but it is a stain on his image.

t
the yard · October 1, 2026

i mean yeah it was a thoughtless thing to say and he got absolutely clobbered for it but did he nominate him?

T
TenaciousDealer · October 1, 2026

Really think the offlinetv example from Nick wasn't a great choice, as a lot of the hate specifically the women associated with that group get has nothing to do with anything they said and just straight up misogyny and saying they just have to deal with that is kinda insane in the same way that a black streamer shouldn't have to just deal with insane racists constantly trying to see them fall. This counts double for a lot of female streamers without the income of a group like that, it reminds me that Sakura had to quit streaming for 18 months because she was getting insane hate for ending a relationship. I think Nick definitely has a point about some streamers but there's far more nuance to it than just "hey you get a good income so deal with it".

f
f0x · October 2, 2026

later on he explains they don't deserve it, and it ought to be different. it's rather that our current system causes (rewards) this behavior, and thus it's something you end up having to deal with as a streamer

Another ep thats kind of just a Yard meeting about like corporate politics and the best way to stack ur money before standing on it. love this pod generally, but paying to have each ep be a coinflip of either half the cast or just talking about influencer politics is dissatisfying i think. after a main ep of mouth sounds too... early days there were quality assurances, now it just feels like whatever they record in their schedule. and yeah ive given up 5 a month for a long time, thats a lot when you A) aren't american B) are a student. i dont wanna bitch and whine, but this is a product, and it can't be that hard to schedule ~3hrs a week, and have the 30 minute business meeting be offline. maybe im just jaded or maybe this is flames emoji, but i think if you showed this to slime and nick near when the pod started, they'd be like 'man we really gave up on this project somewhere on the way'

M
Mr_Aaronoth · October 1, 2026

not to claim the pod "fell off", i just think its blatantly on a backburner. d&d is phenomenal, and i still listen to the backlog also. I doubt I'm going anywhere, unless the quality remains... uh idk 'feeling lower effort'. whatever, its a podcast about friends talking, I'm just upset the creators of the thing i like do not seem to care about the thing they make very much anymore i suppose edit: admittedly i commented 15 minutes bfore finishing the ep, but right after i posted this comment they pulled up som AI video about that k1rk guy which is such an outdated idea. people came to a concensus to not talk about manosphere people or conservative figureheads because it just gives them more attention, but now the short form slop seeps through the cracks of this. Episode not yet finished but its come back to being a comedy podcast not a "mean comments hurt" commentary. not trying to be a hater, trying to sincerely express my thoughts about the above video, in the comment section dedicated for this video. its a lose lose no matter what, but i feel it is sane for me to put feedback about the thing i pay for underneath the thing i pay for. welcome to anyone intending to dogpile this for my negativity. i understand i am being polarising and i am open to feedback to anyone willing to actually write it and not solely aim to be hurtful.
