I'm team slime for the Gen z argument but Ludwig is unfortunately profoundly incorrect as well. I'm glad he has a good vibe from personal experience though
I hope Nick knows about marjoire wc Sinclair after that DuPont mention
Had foot surgery yesterday and the pod has been a godsend for distracting me from pain. Keep it up yard boys :)
I want to see Nick try any math equation harder than 2+2
I think Aiden is wrong about gen z. I'm 20 so in the middle of highschool for covid, and I can say for sure that had an impact on my years education but in a wholistically negative way. Covid reduced the amount of middling people as it became harder to study which resulted in more fails but also more people learning crucial study and problem solving skills early resulting in more higher grades to. The standard deviation flatend. Later gen z also went all the way through most education without ai and covid only came in at the very end. I think his points hold for children who started school after open ai and covid but they are sweeping genralisions then still. I'm aware this sounds like I'm just getting defensive but I've looked at this before and at least in Scotland (where I live) there are sqa information supporting what I've said. Thank you for reading this far 😂
I think a portion of GenZ educational issues can absolutely be attributed to the disruption that COVID caused, along with the over reliance on AI leading to individuals less capable of critical reasoning; however, policies like no kid left behind and the slew of changes throughout education did not set people on the right path to begin with. Arguably, the education systems in the US is a one-size-fits-all model which can’t keep up with changes to technology, time, and students.
I taught in a Philly elementary school for a semester. In my fifth grade classroom of 19 only 2 could read above a second grade level. Now I was in a poorly funded and disadvantaged school but the kids are not getting the cognitive skills.
I imagine a lot of people who would be interested in being a doctor to help people have a hard time grappling with the dichotomy of knowing that you're also saddling people with incredible amounts of medical debt at the same time. It'd be hard to feel like you helped someone knowing you just ruined their financial situation for many years
IMO the biggest place Gen Z is lacking in smarts is how they treat the internet and recording. So many people straight up record stupid shit like themselves doing crimes and put it online. They have no concept of privacy or why they should want any of it. In most other areas I think they're probably fine
I think Nick’s point that traditional schooling isn’t necessarily a measure of intelligence is right, but i think the point aiden is making weighs more. There are fundamental social and intellectual skills being taken away by the cookie of phone time in children. Maybe it’s not impossible to get those things back, but it will be a struggle and i think society at large will have to bear the cost of awesome addison rae tiktok dance compilation #4 in 20 years.
I think millennials are fine and zoomers will mostly be fine but I don’t think Gen alpha will be fine at all
i had this episode playing in two separate tabs and didn’t even question it for about 10 minutes. i just thought this was their new fucked up bit of the week.
for me this was an above average funny scale premium episode, i really liked this one
To reduce scrolling, I recommend ScreenZen (free app but accepts donations). You can block only the evil apps and keep the necessary ones (like phone/texting/email) and only unlock the evil ones once you run 5 miles or hit 10k steps or whatever. Will also block the web version of sites so you can’t bypass it by going to Twitter.com, etc. Also you can set it up to text your friends if you overdo your screentime (good for humiliation). Just a really good free app that works for me (apples screen time limiter is terrible).
I just only scroll tumblr because I only look at shit from people I follow so the feed is hard time limited, but I still get screen time dopamine on the shitter and keep up with important news events through a generally pretty humorous lens
As a 20 year old, gen z is cooked from my perspective. Almost everyone in my classes use AI to do most of the schoolwork and offload most of their thinking to it. There is still a sizeable chunk of people that tries to learn but most people in collage see it as a roadblock in the way to get a job and make money so of course the path of least resistance is picked. Granted all of my coworkers (I am a research assistant) also has chat gpt on the second monitor without fail and they are a bit older. Ai is provenly causing cognitive decline but after everything is done and said, older gens can build back up from their foundations while gen z and younger never built those foundations in the first place. Building that back up seems really difficult when your around 30 without some outside force like reeducation programs.
And any point about gen z learning different tools feels not too serious. Ai, by design, is a tool with a very low skill ceiling. Any person that didn't use it would come to the same level of people dependent on it in a month or so. The skills that are lost though are very fundamental like reading, writing or being able to go through any mental strain at all. Not to mention people offloading social interaction to ai aswell. These problems currently affect all people but gen z and younger just happened to be in it in their developmental years.
BEHIND A FORKLIFT RIGHT NOW😈😈😈😈😈😈
Don't let osha get us
Aimen fighting the good fight on this one. TikTok and YouTube shorts and weed pens and gooning are all so much cooler than lame ass shit like knowledge or books or fuckin scrolls or some shit and that’s on god
im 21 and had sophomore year of HS online; we’re like fine academically bc chat gpt didn’t get good until we were already in college and tiktok didn’t hit until like 8th grade. However we are all socially stunted and like no one can make friends or have healthy relationships or communicate. the ones who are fuuuuucked and can’t write sentences are the people who had the covid year in elementary school and are now in middle/high school.
Hello I am 22 from Aus and have been driving a forklift for the last 4 years at my Ag retail job and yes I did do zoom call classes during covid. Yes I am real and might be the only one to do this.
The kids are not going to be fine
im a teacher candidate rn and while it is true kids are Getting Dumber, there is no lack of motivated and intelligent kids. they still exist and ive had them in every single classroom ive entered in all my training for my certification. the issue is much more motivational issues and neglectful families than it is kids just straight up being dumb. also a lot of teachers are not necessarily prepared to handle the post-covid generation
gg8 IIRC 8%%f4v%,
State of the genz Union: educationally + financially cooked, artistically + culturally cooking. both of these dimensions will probably get stronger over time and i think it will result in the creation of masterpieces (ignore the mental and physical health costs tho those dont count)
I love field day
I need to know…if anyone from the yard sees this, is the mystery Air Force man’s name Edward?
Fuck dude didn't realize I had a patreon sub to lemonade stand
Slimes take on the dichotomy of man between referee and athelete is very interesting and silly. He forgets that sometimes people just really want to win and thats antithetical to the referees idea of running a clean game. Its a very curious idea that I hadn't thought of myself in the moment as a guy that played college soccer and is a bit of a try hard. Please dont ban me man I just had a really hard talk with my wife and I dont have much whimsy in my soul right now.
little too snarky for my liking rewrite your comment with more whimsy
do they just call in kickball in cali? in BC we called it California Kickball
Odd we just call it kickball in the Midwest
Why no videoooooooooooo 🥺🥰🥰🥺🥰🥰🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
because it comes out on thursdays and today is wednesday
Really liked the video portion of this audio podcast. Kidding of course I'll end up watching the video anyway. On a side note as someone actively in university who was a part of the fucked generation, STEM is still very much a thing, we are cheating our way through it, but there are plenty of people honestly interested in it
Leonis is here today
wahoo!
