Law School Episode 5 - DevLog #11
Hello everyone,
Last week was not so great. I underestimated how much the previous week had taken out of me. I took Monday through Thursday off from 3D work and focused on the story instead, which kind of fried my brain because I have to account for so many different paths.
My mistake was believing everyone would play the game the way I originally intended and stick to one girl only. But my dumbass gave you the option to go for multiple girls, then eventually pick the one you like most and stay with her. Then of course there are the people who won’t do that and will keep juggling multiple girls at once, which is evil by the way. So now the hammer of consequences has to come down.
That’s the part that takes the most planning: accounting for all the possible dialogue variations, setting up different scenes with different outcomes, and making sure it all makes sense. I’m happy with what I’ve done so far, but it’s going to take a lot of work. Still, I really like the direction it’s going in. I think players going for that playstyle are going to get a real taste of their own medicine. I’m especially happy with how I’m planning the character development for the girls affected, and with the impact it will have on the MC’s mindset as well.
That said, it’s definitely been a challenge. I spent countless hours pacing around the small free space in my bedroom, going in circles, pitching ideas to myself, then rushing back to the computer to write them down. As a result, I didn’t create a single render between Monday and Thursday afternoon.
When I finally got back to 3D work, I realized I was missing a couple of scenes, so I had to write and build those first. Thankfully, that only took about two days. I’m now working on the party event, and I’m really happy with the design of some of the characters’ outfits. I’m also really looking forward to this event because, while it still follows the story and helps with character development, it also gives me a chance to show a bunch of students together, having fun. It feels like a nice change of pace while still staying true to what I want Law School to be, which is "not just another college game fuckfest".
Anyway, enough rambling. Let’s look at the numbers:
Static renders: 1,796
Animations: 71
Story content: 29 scenes written (26,810 words)
That’s still 122 extra renders since last week, which isn’t a huge number by my standards, but I’ll make up for it this week.
As for the scene count, this event is really one big scene, but I’m going to split it up into smaller sections, with each one counting as its own scene.
On another note, I finally received my desk countertop and completed the setup, so I can now work happily ever after. I also ordered a second 5090, which should arrive this week, because the rendering speed on the first one completely sold me.
The next two or three months are going to be busy, to say the least, but I’m looking forward to it.

Lmao mono life XD it does stink not being to be with them all but i do enjoy the story of it all. Im actually quite invested and curious where it leads. Definitely want more options with Rose for sure and maybe a rose and lana ending would be nice too

It's weird, it doesn't feel like my week has started until these dev logs come out. I think that's a good idea, it reminds me of what happens in Stardew Valley if you date everyone. In the final release, maybe have the MC acknowledge it as a possibility, even if it's just a passing thought, just to help prevent some ire. I think the tone and writing of the game communicated that I should pick one character and focus on her, at least in my case. (My gallery for season 1 is almost empty because I decided I'd be dedicated to Rose almost immediately.) However, most AVNs I've played have been harem without consequences. This game and Race of Life are the the first AVNs (in recent memory) where I felt I shouldn't go for a harem. So I fully expect people to trap themselves trying to play it the same way they've played others. Still, I like the idea and think it makes sense for the story. I'm excited to see it all come together.

I’ve been intimate with all the girls I can pursue, but my three favorite characters are Taylor, Elsa, and Aurora. I don’t care about the moods of the other female characters if I don’t choose them, but for these three I like, I hope that if I choose one of them, the other two won’t be too angry and can just become friends normally.

For one it is team Miranda all the way. As for how you "intended for us to play". OBVIOUSLY you have never been a Dungeon Master for a dnd game. I have and nothing that I have planned ever survived. It just takes one player doing something that is SOOOO off the rails that it destroys the narrative that you are building for them. Now for the reason I am juggling all the girls is to get the gallery(or as much of it as I can) without having to do multiple playthroughs. I have to do that with BEINGADIK. There is your Jill, Isabella, Sage, Maya and/or Josy playthroughs. Let alone the playthrough where you do not have a main love interest but being able to play with all the female side characters. It can be exhausting when all I wanted was the gallery exposed.
I hope the week goes well and that you reach the goals you’re aiming for! I knew that the day of making those decisions would eventually come, and I’ve played all the versions. However, in the original one I only keep Elsa and Aurora. I’ve already broken Taylor’s heart before, but I didn’t have the courage to do the same to Olive! I’m curious to see how you’ll steer things and make us choose. For now I’m calm because, out of the ones who have my heart, one won’t acknowledge me and the other insists she doesn’t want me! Sounds like we're in for some drama this episode lol! Too bad for Taylor she will likely get her heart broken again as my MC would never leave Aurora :/ Either way, appreciate the transparency of these reports MM. Especially that you share the numbers!
I want to stay with Aurora. I don't particularly like the other girls, except for Rose. But no matter what you decide, you will remain my favourite DEV. By the way, sleep is overrated. Long live Monster and espresso.À bientôt, Goat!
