With tomorrow’s Sims 4 patch, here’s how to protect your game, your saves, and your sanity.

🧷 BEFORE You Update

✔ Back up your Saves & Mods folders

• Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Saves

• Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods

✔ Write down or track your mods

• A notes app, spreadsheet, or text file with mod names + creators helps so much after patches.

✔ Close your game & mod manager completely before updating.

🧼 AFTER the Patch (Very Important)

✔ Launch the game ONCE with NO mods (vanilla)

• Mods are disabled automatically — this is normal.

✔ Go into Live Mode for a minute

• You’re just checking that the game loads correctly on the new patch.

❌ Exit WITHOUT saving

• Saving while mods are off can permanently remove modded content from your save.

✔ Clear cache

• Delete localthumbcache.package every time you update or change mods.

✔ Re-enable Mods & Script Mods

• Game Options → Other → Enable Custom Content & Mods

• Restart the game after.
