Story Stream: 1/23 - 1/29

Hello friends!

I hope you've all had the most wonderful week. It's been super busy in my world, but almost entirely with really good things. Some of which you'll be hearing more about very soon. So, I stream a few less stories this week than normal, but I'm not sad about it. It was a super productive week, and there are some very fun things in store. Things well-worth streaming a little less. Anyway, for now, here's what I've been watching and listening to this week!

MOVIES

Hulk (2003)

It's so odd. I saw this back in 2003, and I've always remembered it as being pretty terrible. But, after revisiting it this week (because I just wanted something mindless in the background), it's actually REALLY terrible. Like...truly, truly awful. It was bad, even for 2003. But with 19 years of better Marvel storytelling between viewings, it just couldn't be much worse. I can't think of a single reason to ever watch it again. The one positive thing I can say about this movie is that there are moments in which Nick Nolte really brings it. They are few and easy to miss. But there are moments where he really acts. Everything else? Terrible. Streaming on... who cares, don't watch it. (2/10 - Super Not Recommended)

TV

The Righteous Gemstones (Season 1, Season 2, Episodes 1-5)

A dear friend tried to introduce us to this show when it first came out. They did so by scrubbing through the entire first season to show us all the funniest moments. So, then when we tried to actually watch it, it just didn't work. We never made it past episode 1. Not until this week. Enough time had gone by, and enough buzz is going around about the second season, we decided to give it another try. In two nights we'd watched all of Season 1 and fully caught up to Season 2. I can't believe how long I've been missing out on this comedy gold. It's crass as can be, but we've been quoting it non-stop all week. I can't wait for more. Streaming on HBO Max. (9/10 - Very Highly Recommended)

PODCASTS

Storytime with Seth Rogen - "Hey Me!"

I told you a while back how after listening to only one episode of this show, it's inaugural episode, it was immediately my new favorite podcast. Then, I never listened to another. Not because I was lying, but because I want to be able to really sit and listen to it. It's so layered with subtle production brilliance, I just wanted to give it the attention it deserves. This week we listened to an episode for our Listening Session though, and several producers from the show sat in with us. So I revisited, and once again want to declare from the rooftops that I believe this show is brilliant. Even while I feel somewhat indifferent about Seth Rogen generally. This is a producer's dream. I love it so much. Streaming on the various podcast listening apps. (10/10 - Most Highly Recommended)

MUSIC

Thomas Csorba - From the Jordan (2021)

I've known Thomas since he was a teenager, and I've never ceased to be impressed by his songwriting talents. He's a true phenom. He released this EP a little while back, and I revisited it this week. It's truly so, so, so good. Everything he does is so good. I would strongly encourage you to go download all of it. Every song. Every album. Streaming on the various music apps. (10/10 - Most Highly Recommended)

Dirk - Shot in the Dark (2022)

This artist is also a longtime friend. I know him as Ryan Delange. He's also released music under the name Ryan Wesley. I don't know where the moniker Dirk comes from, but it doesn't matter. He's got the voice of an angel. Honest to God. I don't know a purer voice. This new project will see him releasing a new tune every month this year. This is the first track in that series, and my only reason for not giving it a 10, is because it's just not long enough to satisfy. I want so much more! Can't wait to hear what he releases next. Streaming on the various music apps. (9/10 - Very Highly Recommended)
