Chasing the Muse in 2025

Hello friends, and happy new year!

As many do, I walk the line between nostalgia and hopeful optimism this time of year. Creatively, I spend time reflecting back on the things I've spent my time doing and making over the course of the last couple years, and looking ahead at the things I'm imagining making and doing over the coming year. And while I've done an admittedly poor job of sharing the things I've been making and doing, rest assured, I've been actively and constantly chasing the muse over the last many months, in a number of ways.

One of the biggest, and for me most exciting, ways I've found myself stirred up creatively over the last year is that I've rediscovered my long held love for songwriting and music recording. While audio production has consistently been a part of my creative life, namely in the form of podcasts over the last decade, songwriting and music production is how that love first manifested in my life.

In 2024 I began writing again, and built a community of fellow songwriters called 7in7, based around a quarterly writing practice in which each of us writes a song a day, start to finish, and shares it with one another over the course of 7 days. We did two 7in7 sessions in 2024, with 4 planned for 2025.

I also reunited with my beloved band I've played with since the very early 2000s, Poor Rich Folk, to record together for the first time in 16 years. We spent a week in a remote cabin in the hill country eating good food, laughing, reminiscing, and recording 17 new or previously unrecorded tunes that we've been sitting on for years. It was life-giving beyond what I know how to describe.

I also spent a week in Nashville recording Season 5 of Fun Parts, which should begin releasing very soon!

In 2025, I'm excited to begin sharing the music we recorded last year, and I anticipate writing, recording, and sharing significantly more new music. I'm also planning to record and release a fair amount of commentary to accompany that music.

One of my very favorite projects I've ever recorded, even still, is the Moda Spira Podcast, which accompanied the Moda Spira album, Divorce. I've longed to create similar content (essentially companion podcasts for music releases) ever since, so I'm hoping to do so this year with my own (and my band's) music.

I can't wait to share all of this (and hopefully a lot more) with you all here. I'm regularly amazed and humbled by the reminder that there are still folks paying attention to anything that I would make and put out into the world. I don't take your attention for granted, so thank you for the encouragement that it brings to me, creatively and otherwise.

So much love for each/all of you! Here's to a year of making things. So, so many things.

More soon!

-Luke
