Patreon just won't take my monstrously-long video. I keep trying to upload it like a fat kid keeps trying to get a vending machine to take his sweaty dollar bill.

This video got me to half-listen to the audio book on youtube, watch your video, read an epub of the book (finished today and it was the first book I've read since asoiaf so thank you for that), and now I'm going to reread and take notes. Your gnosticism observation is truly inspired. You did a good job and should feel good about yourself. A stupid Blood Meridian video got me to read something longer than a tweet, so thank you for helping me better myself.

I found it, and that made me only MORE confused. I can find no explicit reference to the burning tree moment, although that Redditor notes “some references”. He must have been alluding to the tree, but doesn’t specifically say so. I’d accept any specific mention of the tree thing. It doesn’t need to be a big exploration of the connections like I did. I hope that doesn’t seem too particular! In summation: I appreciate you looking and hope you find something, but the dress stays in the closet (for now)
I highly recommend reading criticism of Hobbes and "The State of Nature" concept. A lot of what's in the video comes across as very Hobbesian. Taking a political theory class would also have this material since you talk about being in school in your podcast (which I love btw and is was got me to subscribe to your patreon)
Read through Blood Meridian to watch your review (had been on the list for awhile, this was the perfect impetus), great video and I am grateful to get a view of your thoughts on the subject. One point of contention: in the video you allude to us as a species "being over war", and while I agree that sentiment generally seems to be anti-war nowadays, I think part of the reason is that war is so clearly divorced from the lives and well-being of its American participants. Especially with Trump now, the justifications are so clearly business motivated to a comical degree. i do think that education has helped to make many people more anti-war, but I do not believe that the majority of anti-war people would keep singing that tune if faced with a personal connection to conflict (i.e. if the soccer moms of one suburb started scalping the toddlers of another, I think you may see some blood-thirst). Disclaimer: I am anti-war, also my perspective is Am*rican

Have you read The Road? I just finished that book for the first time before watching this video and the themes of Gnostic Christianity that you speak of in this video seems to be heavily present in that as well with the Child being a light in the darkness in his dream in the opening section and the constant reference to “carrying the flame” I have never heard of Gnosticism before the video so it was like a lightbulb when I got to that section and completely recontextualizes The Road for me.
