OPR Miniatures Design Poll
Hello everyone,
Over the years the designs and styles of OPR's minis have changed and evolved due to community feedback, new artists with growing skill, and making minis that fit into our own expanding lore and worlds. It is always a thrill to see the models we release painted and on game tables around the world!
However, with our industry constantly evolving and miniature trends continuing to come and go, we want to know what you, our community, thinks of our model designs. Your feedback has always been important us, and we want to ensure we're delivering the best minis we possibly can.
So if you could, please take a moment to fill out a short poll about our models. Your answers will be very appreciated.
Happy Wargaming,
- OPR Team

I think the better armies are the more realistic ones, a balance is fine, but going too overboard with the heroic style can give quite bad results xD
some factions can be more grimdark as other are good as they are
The Blessed Sisters weapons need some redesigning in my opinion. the magazines don't make sense, the bellflower gun barrels are weird and the multi nozzle guns just look strange.
The multi-muzzle weapons are a pain in the ass to clean supports and paint as well
I don’t want anything like GW, I really like the direction you guys have gone. I liked your battle brother concept and I don’t want it to have a cape, a backpack, or giant shoulder pads. I like that the orcs didn’t go the goofy route, and I am excited for the space rats. Keep it up!
I think SLIGHT changes wouldn't hurt. Specifically in proportions and weapons. Heads and hands are just fractionally too large and many of the guns and other weapons present as toys rather than weapons of war.
No one needs yet another 40k knock-off
Current style is waaaaay more enjoyable than the previous ones, please don’t change it!
Please fix the Blessed Sister's pauldrons. The 2-tier design are a nightmare to clean supports and paint at a high level because of the tiny recess between the sections.
Definitely don't change the style! I might have been a bit confused when doing the survey.
What I particularly like at the moment is that the look isn’t grimdark. This maintains a welcome distinction from certain ‘major’ manufacturers. It would also be nice to have a degree of modularity with the miniatures – insofar as that’s feasible. What I personally didn’t like at all are the capes on the HDF Shock Troopers. Here, in particular, I would have really liked a version without a cape. Unfortunately, my requests on Discord went unheeded.
They did not listen to feedback on many previous armies too, I remember about vampires and all. Did you check if the capes can be removed in blender?
How about new ships for Warfleets?
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I did fill out the survey, it's good that OPR stays close to the userbase and listens to feedback :)
You have great ideas and designs. We need your original designs (STLs) for the "Dao Union"! You have a good balance between heroic and realistic design. When minis are too realistic, the details become too small, making them harder to paint and less visually appealing, and it also takes much longer. You need more modular options. For example, the Shocktrooper with the cape is not great. It’s nice to have, but I want the option to print him without a cape. The Shocktrooper is already quite close to the classic Helldivers look, which is okay since Helldivers has a wide range of designs. But we really don’t need capes, and if you include minis with capes, please also provide versions without them.
We have enough Games Workshop-style minis with bad scaling. A good 32mm scale mix between heroic and realistic is perfect.
I slightly prefer Grimdark over "stylized", Heroic over Realistic (but a middle ground wouldn't hurt either), and I wish for both original and classic designs (although it's probably not feasible).
Hope you guys read the feedback about the orcs!
Does OPR have an example of what "switching to a grimdark style" would be like? I feel like grimdark is more of a painting style. But I could be mistaken. I don't consider GW's models grimdark in nature, but they can be painted in a way to make them grimdark.
The animal icons on human soldiers and the cute ratmen army are definitely not armies I call grimdark. Maybe they mean more serious and gritty designs? Like hive monsters looking really scary?
IMO realistic proportions almost always look better, but I understand why people like heroic scale. In the perfect world, I think you go with realistic proportions, and increase the size of the models to like 32mm scale or bigger to make up for it :)
Pretty sure they are already 32mm. Realistic sized eyes are near unpaintable at even 36 mm. At least on humans. Any larger than that is impractical for this style of wargame.
I'd also love a middle of the road Fantasy/Sci-fi theme (Steampunk in the style of OG Privateer Press warmachine/Hordes style) minis
I think changing scale of the minis from heroic to realistic would be a bad move, as it would make the lines you've already made feel off when they're both on the table. In addition, the chunkier heroic style is easier to print, and (just my opinion) more fun to paint. Changing the style? Not entirely sure. I think showing visuals to show what sort of path you could go down for both would be nice.
Besides, aren't there hundred of 3d creators at that point? Changing identity would definitely ruin it. But yes, no previews is not helping at all
War is dirty business and my preference is for that aesthetic -- but I've no interest in "just different enough" versions of anyone else's work. I like OPR's art direction overall and I like the original take on minis.
Besides, you can always paint them as grim as you like no matter the sculpt.
What are the 2 middle models in the picture?
Human Empire Bounty Hunter and HDF Veteran
Keep the heroic scale, lately I was printing the Dynasty and the frailness and super small details are super noticeable when compared to heroic HDF.
I really wish these guys could come in plastic, such cool models but shit they are brittle, especially the tassels hanging from the trooper's helmets.
