Mind note: not watching horror movies again. Especially this director.
This movie, and Hereditary, and basically all of A24 horror movies, are parodied in the movie The Menu, which is horror satire, but is also kind of a horror movie on its own. Well worth reacting to. If you ever worked in the restaurant industry though, you will find the Menu to be darkly funny and relatable.

I just realized the reason she didn’t die, other than bc she became May queen, was bc she was an extra visitor. They need a total of 9 sacrifices and had fulfilled this quota before Dani planned to come along, meaning they had no reason to kill her.
I would love to see you guys react to summer of 84, you’re next, I see you, or ready or not. I feel like you two would have a lot of fun with them they’re all in the horror/thriller genre

Dani wanted someone to feel her pain with her. So at the end when she sees the community experiencing each others pain, her smile is of acceptance because she found who and what she needed. That's why Pelle wanted her there.
Whoever suggested human centipede... just so you and Hannah know, that movie is legitimately gross. Like... I don't get gaggy like Hannah does and that one made me. I didn't even finish it, I let it play but I was with my cousin who wanted me to watch it and I basically stopped paying attention after part way thru when things got extreme. I'd say if you ever try to watch it, a big heads up. I wouldn't even suggest it myself as I DID NOT like it. Lol 😆
The first human centipede you don’t even really see anything graphic…. I get the reputation with the second one because they turn it up to 11, but anyone saying the first movie is too graphic hasn’t even seen it

I fucking love this movie
On last show, Total recall, I made a comment to go along Ash’s very valid complains about new films. I commented new films might as well be called religious films, feminism being the religion. Well, u couldn’t have picked a better film to prove my point! Let’s go! “Midsommar” all men are bad and stupid, all women are victims and all good. After watching the movie , I was way wrong, this is not one of those new Disney , new marvel movies.
The film has little to do with feminism itself. Some other reviews/analysis made the main point of the film about how Dani escapes a toxic relationship and her smiling at the end because she's finally free of him. That's very superficial, considering Dani has her own toxic traits like codependency. It's really more about exploring the effects of severe grief and trauma on a mentally fragile/vulnerable person caught in the midst of a very manipulative and immoral cult. The director and Florence Pugh have both said Dani is smiling at the end mostly because she has lost her sanity by the end of the movie.
