Second reaction i've watched of y'alls. Thanks for convincing me of the theory of relativity cause no matter how many times I align the film, it gets disjointed lol.

Ladyjaded · January 17, 2025

I just paid 6 bucks to watch this but it’s not subtitled? You’re not subtitled?! I’m deaf and I need subtitles. Please tell me it can be turned on somehow?

S
Sam Edmiston Cartwright · November 13, 2024

I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I HIGHLY recommend you guys watch Arrival. It's an unrelated film by the same director and it's one of the coolest alien movies I've ever seen

D
Dan_Quixote · November 1, 2024

My friends I'm so happy to see you watch this! (and yes, this is 8,000 years in the future of our own world. ) These books, written in like... 1964? are SO next level, that both of you arguing about time travel are both correct at the same time.... If you can look at this through a sufi/buddhist/gnostic mysticism point of view, or consider the holographic principle of the universe, this shit will really take off for you. ... It's not.... "Is Paul a time traveler?" It's.... "what is time and how is it projected? What is the religious experience? What if you gamed the answer to both of those questions? Charisma and intentions aside, are you a tyrant or a messiah?? " SO. SICK. i'm tellin ya ;-)

Gald you and Hannah watched these Dune remakes, you both should try the 80s Dune movie at some point.

Really wish you’d put the edited version on here too. I just don’t have the time or energy to rewatch the whole film again

It all looks black and white. Also the worm riding. If you pull their scales up they won't dive into the sand. It irritates their body so they stay afloat

W
Wellington Lima · May 10, 2024

Also the black and white scenes on the second movie is because that world has a black sun

W
Wellington Lima · May 10, 2024

The 2nd movie gives the notion that everything between took months but it the book paul goes from a teen to an adult

W
Wellington Lima · May 10, 2024

The 2nd one should take place many yrs into the future. Paul is only 15 yrs old in the first book. That's why they chose an actor who may weight 120lbs. Basically a woman's weight

W
Wellington Lima · May 10, 2024

Also the geologist. The black woman is supposed to be a white guy. So the chinese doctor speaking mandarin is a travesty trying to sell the movie to over a billion people in China. The black woman is there to cater to the libtards of the US

W
Wellington Lima · May 10, 2024

They took some liberties. The traitor doctor's name is Wellington sometimes. I've never had a representation of my 1st name since it's a British last name. The yr is 10k something but it's a different calendar. It's equal 34k in the future. 10k + is a calendar after the spaces guild. The books are from 64. Mushroom induced shit. Lucas made star wars based of Dune lore

Ash, on You Tube I did that long comment explaining things. I had one error in it. Baustista's characters name is Rabban Harkonnen. Feyd Rauthra is someone else. .

You’re right about the director loving his craft, he makes nothing but high quality films. You 2 have seen Prisoners and Sicario which he directed. I recommend Arrival another one of his movies. Zendaya is one of the funniest, charismatic , talented actors but don’t see her as one of the most beautiful, sorry Hannah !

Dune was written in 1965, before Star Wars (it was written in 1976)! So if anything, Star Wars got inspiration from Dune.

Great commentary you guys. This sets up for part 2, which has to be one of the best sci-fi movie I've ever seen. Edit: "Just like my wind. Silent and violent". LMAO Hannah pls

O
Omnitron310 · April 27, 2024

Great reaction! Could tell you were really getting into the movie. It's definitely heavy on lore, and it's easy to miss certain aspects of it, but I think you picked up on all the important stuff. Personally, I have no problem with you guys chatting and making jokes; I feel like anyone who's watched you in the past should know to expect that lol, and it's part of the fun. Love your energy. And despite that, you still followed along well. There definitely are some part of the film that can be a little confusing though, so allow me to offer a few spoiler-free clarifications: - Paul's visions: Paul is clearly able to see the future, however, the future is not set in stone. What he sees are glimpses of possible, probable futures, but they aren't guaranteed (and sometimes what he sees is more symbolic rather than literal). The future can be changed, especially by actions that he chooses to take (which he can take with the knowledge of how they might play out). That's why he is able to defeat Jamis in the fight at the end when his vision showed him losing. However... - Jamis: We see him being a friend and teacher to Paul in some of Paul's visions. However, obviously, that now can't happen as Jamis is dead. But in a way, Jamis did still teach him an important lesson and about the ways of the desert, just as an adversary rather than a mentor. The vision said "Paul must die", but it also said "when you take a life, you take your own". So, by taking Jamis' life, in a way, Paul did 'die'; a death of innocence, to be reborn as 'the One'. - The politics: There are many similarities to Game of Thrones actually. You have many great houses which are all powerful in their own right, with one of them ruling (the house of the Emperor, which we haven't really met in-person so far). The Atreides are one such house, and they are kind of comparable to the Starks: honorable, loyal, fierce warriors, and liked by the other houses. The Harkonnens are another, and are a little similar to the Lannisters: smart, treacherous, callous, obsessed with wealth, and and an old rival of the Atreides. The Emperor feared how popular the Atreides were becoming, perhaps popular enough to challenge him, but he knew he couldn't just go and kill them, or all the other houses would rebel. So instead he takes Arrakis from the Harkonnens and gives it to the Atreides, knowing the Harkonnens would seek to retake it. That way to the outside it seems like just a feud between two old enemies playing out, the Atreides die, and the Harkonnens are weakened, all without the Emperor having to get involved. But secretly, he lends the Harkonnens the support of his soldiers, the Sardaukar, to ensure the job gets done. - Shields: The energy shields the fighters wear (and that are also on a lot of their ships) deflect anything traveling too fast. This makes guns basically useless, as bullets just bounce off, which is why you see so few being used. Instead, you have to get in close with a blade and work it in slowly to bypass the shield. This is also why the poison breath Leto used on the Baron worked; air can pass through the shield. The Fremen don't use shields, as in the desert, the vibration of the shields attracts the worms. Stoked to watch your reaction to Part 2! I love the first film, and think it stands on its own, but it's also very clearly a 'Part 1'. That's because it only covers the first half of the first book in the series these films are based on. The next film, Part 2, covers the second half, and is when shit gets really crazy. We've had all the worldbuilding and setup; now we get to see how it all goes down. Here's hoping you upload it soon!

B
BH · April 27, 2024

I love your reactions, but you spent so much of the movie talking through the dialogue. The movie answers a lot of your questions but you miss it because of the talking/laughing. Love y’all, just try to talk just a little less on Part 2.

K
Kenneth thomas · April 27, 2024

Star Wars actually took some influence from Dune, the book ,which came out in the 60's. And yeah as you said it's easy to see the filmmaker is very passionate about film, and passionate about the book as well it shows very much. Part 2 is a 10/10 movie!

A
Alex J. · April 27, 2024

The original book was released in 1965 and is considered one of the greatest science fiction novels. Both the Part 1 and 2 were directed by Denis Villeneuve the same guy who directed Sicario.

I'm gonna go out of my way and also recommend Snowpiercer (2013) again. Dystopian sci-fi like the Last of Us starring Chris Evans. Very underrated film.

S
Sammxney · April 27, 2024

First of all, so glad you guys loved this movie I can't WAIT to see your reaction to part 2 it's fucking insane. Secondly, to answer a few questions: 1) Jessica is Duke Leto's concubine so unfortunately not he never married 2) the pregnancy is by Duke Leto (i mean who could resist carrying a baby for a man like that) 3) the visions Paul are having are possibilities, paul killed himself by killing Jamis 4) The saudakaur are the emporer's legion, the harkonnen (bald scaries) asked for 3 saudakaur battalions to aid in the attack on house atreides because they're the best fighting house in the imperium. That was what was being dicussed between the reverend mother who is truthsayer to the emporer and Floating disabled Churchill 5) Damn don't be too hard on Jamis he got them through the storm he is friend 6) Hannah is on to a lot

Just for you to know the guy from Sicario directed this. I guess you can find similarities between both films.

K
Kevin Farrell · April 26, 2024

If you're gonna edit you using the restroom anyway, why make everyone else pause and sync back up? Just cut to where you start the movie again

A
Aram · April 26, 2024

George Lucas was heavily inspired by Dune books, when he created Star Wars. That's why you could sense some thematic similarities, although Dune has a darker tone. The amount of books, TV shows, movies and games inspired by Dune is too high!
