Case 345: The Barking Murders
Over a 16-month period between 2014 and 2015, four young men - Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor - each died under unusual circumstances in the East London suburb of Barking. While the police initially palmed the deaths off as isolated incidents, the families of the four men believed something suspicious was at play. All of the men had been found near or in a churchyard, all had died from dangerously high levels of GHB, and none had a reason to be in the area. When CCTV footage forced detectives to revisit the evidence, what they uncovered was shocking.

Incredible episode. Those sisters were so awesome I feel for the families so much. They were Celia Blay level.
The homophobia and complete lack of regard for the victims reminded me of the police in the Jeffrey Dahmer case…
10/10 story telling Casefile team. The story has hit close to home with my own close friends that use grindr + other apps to make connections. Thank you for the reminder that sometimes taking all safety steps can still not be enough to remain safe. Happy Pride from Seattle! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
"...including 'sleeping pills,' 'drugs,' 'date rape drug porn,' 'boys being fucked on G,' and 'gay boys drug fucked sleeping.'" between that and Casey stopping to tell us what a twink is, this is rapidly filling my quota for "laughs that send me to Hell" for the year.
I can usually get around your humour but this comment is pretty fucked
the police are just as responsible for the three additional deaths as steven porter. they need to be held to a higher standard. whether it’s in the UK, australia, or the united states, the police are totally and completely corrupt, and i mean that in every sense of the word. we must demand police reform now and abolish these institutions as we know them so they can be rebuilt from the ground up.
If I were Barbara, I’d maybe rethink my dog walking route.
💀👏🏼
every time I hear this case it just gets more infuriating. I don't think it has parallel for the sheer disdain and derision the police showed the victims and their community. The cops' dismissal of Rachel Barber's parents is perhaps what comes closest, or perhaps the police's utter failure to investigate the church where Elisa Claps's body was very obviously located for decades, or the police doing nothing whatsoever to investigate Kristin Smart's killer until a podcast shamed them into it. But none of those cases come close to this one for sheer scale. Even the serial murders among his queer community committed by Herb Baumeister in Indianapolis--that investigation was atrocious, but at least there *was* an investigation and the police at least admitted they *were* murders. It's just hard to think of another event at this scale which was fucked up this massively. Thank you guys for covering this one. Er. Happy Pride? 🫠
it makes me wanna throw a brick at a cop!
I genuinely look forward to every new episode. They just keep getting better and better with each one! The storytelling is engaging, the pacing is excellent, and every episode leaves me eager for the next. Fantastic work—keep it up!
This was hard to listen to. These poor boys. At least the drugs meant they didn't suffer as they died.
Weird to be fired up about these drops. But definitely am.
okay i was certain this has already been covered but it wasn’t i guess??
I thought it had been as well but I think it must’ve been a different podcast
I was getting worried we weren't getting an episode this week.
Likewise!
